The 5th Annual Mammoth Lakes Film Festival (MLFF) announced this year’s juried and audience award winners with the top jury awards going to A Great Lamp for Best North American Narrative Feature, and to Best 17 Blocks for North American Documentary Feature. The Jury Award for Best International Narrative Feature went to Cat Sticks, and to Clean Hands for Best International Documentary Feature.
Netflix has acquired worldwide rights to Mati Diop’s award winning film Atlantics that premiered at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Grand Prix. Atlantics is Diop’s feature directorial debut and she is the first black woman ever to compete for the Palme d’Or.
The South Korean film Parasite directed by Bong Joon-Ho won the Palme d’Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. The film is described as “A family tragicomedy depicting the inevitable collision that ensues when Ki-woo, the eldest son in a family of four unemployed adults, is introduced to the wealthy Park family for a well-paid tutoring job.” Bong Joon-Ho who is best known for his earlier films Okja and Snowpiercer is the first Korean director to win the top award at Cannes Film Festival.
The Short Films and Cinéfondation Jury of the 2019 Cannes Film Festival headed by Claire Denis awarded the top 2019 Cinéfondation Prize – Premier Prix to Mano A Mano directed by Louise Courvoisier of CinéFabrique, France.
The French animation film I Lost My Body (J’ai perdu mon corps) by Jérémy Clapin was awarded the Nespresso Grand Prize at the 58th Critics Week at the Cannes Film Festival. In the film, a cut-off hand escapes from a dissection lab with one crucial goal: to get back to its body. As it scrambles through the pitfalls of Paris, it remembers its life with the young man it was once attached to… until they met Gabrielle.
The Sarajevo Film Festival has screened several of Swedish director and Palme d’Or winner Ruben Östlund’s films throughout his career, including THE SQUARE at the 23rd Sarajevo Film Festival (2017), FORCE MAJEURE at the 20th Sarajevo Film Festival (2014) and PLAY at the 17th Sarajevo Film Festival (2011). Östlund returns to preside over the Competition Program – Feature Film Jury at the 25th Sarajevo Film Festival.

Wade in the Water, a semi-finalist for the prestigious Nicholl Fellowships in 2018, will premiere at the prestigious Dances with Films Film Festival on Wednesday, June 19th, 2019 at 7:15 PM.
Ten insightful and impactful documentaries have been selected to compete at the 40th anniversary edition of the Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) which takes place in Durban, South Africa, from July 18 to 28, 2019.
Director Pawel Pawlikowski will be presented with the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo, for his outstanding contribution to the art of film and his lasting friendship with the city of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, at the opening ceremony of the 25th Sarajevo Film Festival on August 16.
