24 titles, with 20 World Premieres, are set for the 2024 Discovery program lineup at the Toronto International Film Festival in which audiences will uncover hidden cinematic gems from around the globe. The Discovery program premieres debut and sophomore films from emerging filmmakers, showcasing the best of contemporary international cinema.

Aude Léa Rapin’s Planet B (Planète B) will open the 39th edition of Venice Critics’ Week (Settimana Internazionale della Critica), the independent and parallel section of the Venice International Film Festival, taking place August 28 to September 7, 2024. Set in the future, the French film Planet B follows an activist pursued by the state who vanishes without a trace, and when she awakens, she finds herself trapped in an entirely unfamiliar world: Planet B.

RaMell Ross’s Nickel Boys will be the Opening Night film of the 62nd New York Film Festival, taking place September 27 to October 14, 2024.

Nonostante, by and with Valerio Mastandrea, will be the opening film of the Orizzonti competition section, and September, 5 by Tim Fehlbaum, will be the opening film of the Orizzonti Extra competition section for the 81st Venice International Film Festival taking place August 28 – September 7, 2024.

While the full slate of programming, including over 150 films, will be announced later, the 55th Nashville Film Festival (NashFilm) taking place from September 19–25, 2024 confirmed the first six official selections.

Venice Immersive, the XR – Extended Reality section of the 81st Venice International Film Festival taking place August 28th – September 7th, 2024, will present 63 projects from 25 countries.

The 8th Annual Weengushk International Film Festival (WIFF) which took place July 11-14, 2024 on Manitoulin Island in Northern Ontario announced the award recipients. Marie Clements received two awards including Best Director and Best Screenplay for her epic film Bones of Crows; as did Cody Lightning – Best Narrative Feature Film and Best Actor for his mockumentary comedy film Hey, Viktor!.
