The Provincetown International Film Festival (PIFF) will honor actress Aubrey Plaza, with the festival’s inaugural Next Wave Award, which recognizes those who have exciting and distinctive voices, take artistic risks, and have a passionate commitment to independent film.
Plaza, who stars in and produced the festival’s Closing Night Film, INGRID GOES WEST, will receive the honor at a ceremony on Sunday, June 18 at Fishermen Hall in Provincetown. She will also star in THE LITTLE HOURS which she produced and has recently received critical acclaim for her role on the FX series, “Legion.”
Additionally, the festival will host a special presentation with Julie Klausner and Scott King, the creators of Hulu’s hit original series “Difficult People” and a special screening of a new documentary from acclaimed filmmakers Sebastian Junger and Nick Quested (with Junger in attendance), as well as daily breakfast panels and more.

Cynthia Nixon to Receive Acting Award at Provincetown International Film Festival
Emmy, Tony and Grammy Award-winner Cynthia Nixon will be honored with the 2016 Excellence in Acting Award at this year’s Provincetown International Film Festival (PIFF), running June 15 – 19, 2016 in Provincetown, MA.
Nixon will be on hand to accept the award at a special ceremony on Saturday, June 18 at Provincetown’s historic Town Hall.
“We are thrilled to honor Cynthia Nixon’s remarkable versatility and talent as evidenced by the sheer depth and volume of her film, TV, and stage performances, her work with the top directors in the world, and her ability to successfully engage the worlds of super stardom and the art house elite,” said Christine Walker, Executive Director of PIFF and CEO of the Provincetown Film Society.
Nixon can currently be seen in Pamela Romanowsky’s film THE ADDERALL DIARIES and later this year will star in Terence Davies’ biopic A QUIET PASSION as reclusive poet Emily Dickinson. Recent projects include Showtime’s “The Affair,” Comedy Central’s “Broad City,” Josh Mond’s JAMES WHITE (Independent Spirit Award nominee, Best Supporting Female), Richard Loncraine’s 5 FLIGHTS UP, and Nikole Beckwith’s STOCKHOLM, PENNSYLVANIA (Critics’ Choice Television Award nominee, Best Supporting Actress in a Movie or Limited Series).
Previous recipients of the Excellence in Acting Award include Patricia Clarkson, Parker Posey, Vera Farmiga, Tilda Swinton, Alessandro Nivola, Gael García Bernal and Alan Cumming.

LEARNING TO DRIVE directed by Isabel Coixet won the HBO Audience Award / Best Narrative Feature, and PACKED IN A TRUNK: THE LOST ART OF EDITH LAKE WILKINSON directed by Michelle Boyaner won the HBO Audience Award / Best Documentary Feature at the 2015 Provincetown International Film Festival (PIFF).
In LEARNING TO DRIVE, starring Patricia Clarkson and Ben Kinsley, a recently divorced book editor, on a path to self-sufficiency, and her driving instructor, a soft-spoken taxi driver from India on the verge of an arranged marriage, connect over their mutual anxieties.
In 1924 artist Edith Lake Wilkinson was committed to an asylum and never heard from again.PACKED IN A TRUNK: THE LOST ART OF EDITH LAKE WILKINSON follows Edith’s great-niece, Emmy Award winning writer and director Jane Anderson, on her journey to find the answers to the mystery of Edith’s buried life.

Bobcat Goldthwait was presented with the 2015 Filmmaker on the Edge Award in conversation with PIFF resident artist John Waters at Town Hall on Saturday night. Jennifer Coolidge received the Faith Hubley Career Achievement Award in conversation with film critic and professor B. Ruby Rich.

Shorts Lineup + Bobcat Goldthwait, Jennifer Coolidge Among Guests at 2015 Provincetown International Film Festival
Writer/director, Bobcat Goldthwait and actress Jennifer Coolidge are among the honorees and distinguished guests for the 17th edition of the Provincetown International Film Festival (PIFF) running June 17 to 21 in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Writer/director Bobcat Goldthwait (CALL ME LUCKY) will be named the 2015 “Filmmaker on the Edge” in conversation with resident artist John Waters at Provincetown’s historic Town Hall on Saturday, June 20. Actress Jennifer Coolidge (BEST IN SHOW) will receive the Faith Hubley Career Achievement Award that same evening, in conversation with film critic B. Ruby Rich.
“This year’s honorees underscore the importance of comedy to independent film – not only surprising and delighting us, but boldly and subversively pushing boundaries. Both Bobcat and Jennifer are masters of their craft,” said Andrew Peterson, PIFF’s Director of Programming.
Additionally, Noah Baumbach’s MISTRESS AMERICA (pictured above), starring Greta Gerwig, has been added to the list of features previously announced. The festival will also host a double billing of Steven Spielberg’s JAWS and Noel Marshall’s ROAR at the Wellfleet Drive-In on Wednesday, June 17. John Waters will present a special screening of KILLER JOE, directed by William Friedkin, on Sunday, June 21.

“Sleeping with Other People” to Open “I Am Michael” to Close Lineup for 2015 Provincetown International Film Festival
The 2015 Provincetown International Film Festival (PIFF) running June 17 to 21, 2015, in Provincetown, Massachusetts will open with Leslye Headland’s SLEEPING WITH OTHER PEOPLE (pictured above), and close with I AM MICHAEL, directed by Justin Kelly. Spotlight Films are James Ponsoldt’s THE END OF THE TOUR, Paul Weitz’s GRANDMA and Jeffrey Schwartz’s TAB HUNTER CONFIDENTIAL. The Festival also unveiled its lineup of narrative and documentary features for its 17th edition.

“LOVELACE” to Open and “EMANUEL AND THE TRUTH ABOUT FISHES” to Close the 15th Provincetown International Film Festival

The 15th Anniversary of the Provincetown International Film Festival (PIFF) will take place in Provincetown, Massachusetts from June 19th through June 23rd, 2013. The festival will open with Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman’s LOVELACE (pictured above), and close with EMANUEL AND THE TRUTH ABOUT FISHES, directed by Francesca Gregorini. The Friday Night Spotlight selection is I AM DIVINE, directed by Jeffrey Schwartz and the Saturday Night Spotlight Selection is I’M SO EXCITED!, directed by Pedro Almodovar.
The 2013 Filmmaker on the Edge Award will be awarded to writer/director Harmony Korine (SPRINGBREAKERS, GUMMO, MISTER LONELY, KIDS) in conversation with John Waters at Provincetown’s Town Hall on Saturday, June 22nd.
The Festival will close on June 23rd with a block party and the presentation of the HBO Audience Awards.
