The French-Georgian film Beginning (Dasatskisi) is the winner of the Golden Shell for Best Film at San Sebastian Festival’s 68th edition, along with three awards including the Silver Shell for Best Director for Dea Kulumbegashvili, the Silver Shell for Best Actress going to Ia Sukhitashvili and the Jury Prize for Best Screenplay going both to Kulumbegashvili herself and to Rati Oneli, also co-producer and actor in the film.
Filmmaker Abel Ferrara, will be in attendance tomorrow, Saturday at San Sebastian Festival to host a ‘surprise film’ screening of his latest Sportin’ Life.
The Indian short film CatDog directed by Ashmita Guha wins the Orona – Nest Award at the 2020 San Sebastian International Film Festival. The award which comes with 10,000 euros is given to a film “for its bold but intimate storytelling capable of suggesting the depth of fictional and also real power games”. The Speech directed by Haohao Yan received a Special Mention.
Five films will compete for the Cooperación Española Award given by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) at San Sebastian Festival’s 68th edition. The accolade goes every year, since 2015, to the producer of the Latin American film (including Spanish and Portuguese films) making the best contribution to human development, the eradication of poverty and the full exercising of human rights.

The international premiere of the Colombian film Forgotten We’ll Be (El olvido que seremos), directed by Fernando Trueba and starring Javier Cámara, will close, out of competition, the Official Selection at the San Sebastian Festival’s 68th edition. The film, an adaptation of Héctor Abad Faciolince’s homonymous novel, is part of the Official Selection of Cannes 2020, cancelled due to the pandemic.
The Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino (Call Me by Your Name) will be the president of the Official Selection Jury at San Sebastian Festival’s 68th edition. Luca Guadagnino will also present the world premiere, out of competition, the series We Are Who We Are.
Made in Spain, a showcase of the Spanish cinema at the San Sebastian Festival will feature selected eight productions – seven feature films and the first episode in the series Escenario 0 – for its 68th edition. The selection includes titles from experienced filmmakers such as Icíar Bollaín and Santiago Segura along with novices like Pilar Palomero and Nuria Giménez.
A total of 13 feature films will compete for the Irizar Basque Film Award award and 20,000 euros for the film’s producer or producers at the San Sebastian Festival’s 68th edition.
Wife of a Spy directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa will open the Perlak section of the San Sebastian Festival’s 68th edition, which will consist of nine films selected for international festivals such as Cannes, Venice, Deauville and Sundance.
ARZAK Since 1897, the documentary by Asier Altuna about the restaurant run by Juan Mari Arzak and his daughter Elena, will open the Culinary Zinema section at the San Sebastian Festival’s 68th edition. The other 3 films in the section include Camí lliure / Free Way (Vía libre), by Ángel Parra, which also has a strong family component and shows the relationship between chefs Raül Balam and his mother Carme Ruscalleda, while La receta del equilibrio, by Óscar Bernàcer, places the chef Ricard Camarena before the challenge of opening his premises after the lockdown. Lastly, The Truffle Hunters, by Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw, brings a portrait of several elderly people and their search for the coveted white truffle in Italy’s Piedmont region.
The 68th edition of the San Sebastian Festival will host the world premiere of the series Dime quién soy (Tell me who I am), directed by Eduard Cortés, starring Irene Escolar, and based on the book of the same name by Julia Navarro. The presentation will take place on Monday September 21 in the Victoria Eugenia Theatre, at the Movistar+ Gala.
