The annual Sundance Film Festival, held in and around Park City, Utah, each January is widely considered the premier platform for American and international independent film. Sundance Institute and Adobe announced the class of 2020 Sundance Ignite x Adobe Fellows, chosen from a global pool of more than 1,600 applicants. The ten emerging fellows hail from a broad geography, from Nashville to Hong Kong, and are rooted in a diverse array of creative disciplines from documentary filmmaking to narrative shorts. The selected fellows will be mentored and supported by the Sundance Institute and Sundance Ignite founding partner Adobe.
In a statement released today, Tabitha Jackson, the new director of Sundance Film Festival revealed the approach for the 2021 festival in the new normal of the coronavirus pandemic. The Festival is pursuing what is being described as a grand partnership of communities – it will take place live in Utah and in at least 20 independent and community cinemas across the U.S. and beyond with an online home at the center of all the planning.

HBO Max has acquired U.S. rights to the documentary On The Record following the film’s premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and after Oprah Winfrey’s much public exit from the film.

At a reception at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, Sundance Institute and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation awarded $70,000 in grants. Doron Weber, Vice President and Program Director at the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation presented the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize to Tesla and announced the new winners: Tim Delaney for The Plutonians (Sundance Institute | Sloan Commissioning Grant); Kiran Deol for Tidal Disruption (Sundance Institute | Sloan Development Fellowship); and Courtney Smith for Higher (Sundance Institute | Sloan Episodic Fellowship). Michael Almereyda’s Tesla was formally presented with a $20,000 check for winning the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Feature Film Prize.
