Marlee Matlin, W. Kamau Bell and Destin Daniel Cretton are among the 16 jurors granting awards for artistic and cinematic excellence at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, including the five jury members who awarded the Alfred P. Sloan Film Prize.

Rounding out the lineup for the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, the festival revealed the Beyond Film conversations featuring three series called Power of Story, Cinema Café, and The Big Conversation. Beyond Film provides a place for the community to engage through artist conversations, filmmaker panels, and audience discourse. Beyond Film will take place in-person from January 19–23, 2023, with the Beyond Film offerings becoming available to audiences across the country on the online Festival Platform starting January 24, 2023.

Showtime revealed the official trailer for Murder in Big Horn, a new documentary exploring the deaths of a group of Native American women in rural Montana, making its premiere at Sundance Film Festival 2023.

Five world premiere feature films, plus four award-winning feature films from previous Festivals have been added to the 2023 Sundance Film Festival lineup. Guadagnino will join previously announced honorees of the evening, Ryan Coogler, W. Kamau Bell, and Nikyatu Jusu. Opening Night: A Taste of Sundance will kick off the 2023 Sundance Film Festival by honoring inspiring and breakout storytellers whose journeys have been connected to Sundance throughout the years while raising funds and awareness for the Institute.

64 Short Films and 4 Indie Episodic projects have been selected for the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. This upcoming year’s Short Film program includes work from 23 countries and the Indie Episodic represents works from five countries.

Sundance announced the inaugural edition of Opening Night: A Taste of Sundance, an evening that kicks off the Festival by honoring inspiring and breakout storytellers whose journeys have been connected to Sundance throughout the years while raising funds and awareness for the Institute. Ryan Coogler will receive the Sundance Institute | Variety Visionary Award, the Vanguard Award for nonfiction will be presented to W. Kamau Bell and the Vanguard Award for fiction will go to Nikyatu Jusu.

Sundance Institute announced that Eugene Hernandez will be the next Director of the Sundance Film Festival and head of public programming. He is the fourth official Festival Director in the Sundance Film Festival’s history. He joins the Sundance Institute from Film at Lincoln Center (FLC), where he has spent the past 12 years, most recently as Senior Vice President of FLC, Executive Director of the New York Film Festival, and publisher of Film Comment.
