Oscar®-nominated filmmaker Erick Oh’s (Opera) animated short film Namoo (나무), is inspired by the passing of Erick’s grandfather, Namoo – which translates to “tree” in Korean – marks Oh’s most personal work to date. The theatrical version of Namoo will premiere at Tribeca Film Festival.
At the 61st Krakow Film Festival, on the June 1st, the Dragon of Dragon award will be given to Piotr Dumała, “the international master of animated film and the creator of original film techniques.” The 61st Krakow Film Festival will take place from May 30th to June 6th, 2021.
The fantasy animation horror film The Spine of Night from directors Philip Gelatt and Morgan Galen King will world premiere as part of the SXSW Midnighters section, taking place virtually next month. NY/LA-based arthouse genre sales company Yellow Veil Pictures have acquired world sales rights on the film.

The animated film The Power of Hope will be in Shorts By The Sea in September and features a song by 13-year-old filmmaker Kalia Love Jones and co- writer Grammy-nominated producer Ben Franklin. The French animated fantasy indie film I Lost My Body (J’ai perdu mon corps) directed by Jérémy Clapin won Best Feature – Independent at the 47th Annual Annie Awards. I Lost My Body which is nominated for a Best Animated Feature Oscar, and is now streaming on Netflix also won the award for Writing in an Animated Feature.
Less than one month before opening night, the 2020 Animation First festival continues to add new films and events including the US premiere of Hello World! directed by Anne-Lise Koehler and Éric Serre, an exhibition of illustrator/filmmaker Lorenzo Mattotti’s New Yorker covers, as well as expanded programs of shorts, video games, virtual and augmented reality, and public workshops. The Animation First festival will take place from February 7 to 9.
