Fiddler’s Journey to the Big Screen, a documentary film directed by Daniel Raim (Harold and Lillian: A Hollywood Love Story) will have its New York release on April 29 at the Angelika Film Center, and Los Angeles release on May 6 at Laemmle Royal. A national release will follow.
The Academy Award®-nominated documentary short, When We Were Bullies, from longtime HBO collaborator Jay Rosenblatt (HBO’s “Phantom Limb,” “Human Remains”) has been acquired by HBO Documentary Films; and will debut Wednesday, March 30 (9:00-9:35 p.m. ET/PT) on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max.
‘Flee’ and ‘Ascension’ – 2022 Cinema Eye Honors Awards Winners
Flee, Jonas Poher Rasmussen’s animated documentary took the top prize at the 15th Annual Cinema Eye Honors, winning the award for Outstanding Achievement in Nonfiction Filmmaking. Jessica Kingdon’s Ascension won three awards, the most of the evening, for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography, Original Score and Debut Feature. Both films have been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.

Netflix released the official trailer for The Andy Warhol Diaries, the documentary series chronicling the remarkable life of Andy Warhol. Directed by Andrew Rossi, the documentary debuts March 9, 2022 on Netflix.
IFC Films will release COW, filmmaker Andrea Arnold’s (American Honey, Fish Tank) groundbreaking documentary debut of an immersive, empathetic portrait of the life of a dairy cow. The film world-premiered at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival and has been featured at top festivals throughout the world including Telluride, AFI and London. The BAFTA-nominated documentary will launch theatrically in on Friday, April 8 in New York (IFC Center) and Los Angeles (Landmark Westwood, Laemmle Playhouse 7) and will also be available everywhere films are rented. A national theatrical rollout will follow.

Phoenix Rising, a two-part documentary produced and directed by Amy Berg (HBO’s “The Case against Adnan Syed”), follows actress and activist Evan Rachel Wood as she takes her experience as a survivor of domestic violence to pursue justice, heal generational wounds, and reclaim her story. Almost a decade after escaping a dangerous relationship, Wood co-authors and successfully lobbies for passage of The Phoenix Act, legislation that extends the statute of limitations for domestic violence cases in California. Wood courageously uses her own experience to bring visibility to the issue; ultimately, in solidarity with fellow survivors.

Aftershock, from directors Paula Eiselt and Tonya Lewis Lee, which won the Sundance Film Festival’s U.S. Documentary Special Jury Award for Impact for Change upon its debut there last month has been acquired by Disney’s Onyx Collective and ABC News. The documentary film will stream on Hulu in the U.S., on Star+ in Latin America, and on Disney+ in all other territories.
The ground-breaking documentary Uprooted: The Journey of Jazz Dance, from visionary filmmaker Khadifa Wong, streams exclusively in the U.S. on HBO Max, beginning February 1st, as part of Black History Month celebration.
