Kino Lorber will release the World War II thriller film Wife of a Spy directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Cure, Pulse, Tokyo Sonata). Winner of the Silver Lion (Best Director) at the Venice Film Festival, the film will open at the IFC Center in New York on September 17, and at Laemmle Royal (and other Laemmle theaters) in Los Angeles on September 24. Other cities will follow.
Isabella, the latest addition to Argentine filmmaker Matías Piñeiro’s series on Shakespeare’s female characters, opens on Friday, August 27 at Film at Lincoln Center in New York City, followed by Los Angeles on Friday, September 3 at the Laemmle Royal, before continuing on to other U.S. and Canadian cities.

Directed by Jim Taihuttu, the Dutch war film The East (De Oost) starring Martijn Lakemeyer, Marwan Kenzari, Jonas Smulders will be released in the U.S. everywhere on August 13th, 2021.

Sony Pictures Classics will release Juho Kuosmanen’s Compartment No.6., winner of the Grand Prix at this year’s 2021 Cannes Film Festival. Inspired by the novel Compartment No.6 by Rosa Liksom, the film stars Seidi Haarla (Force of Habit, Love & Order) and Yuriy Borisov (Petrov’s Flu).
Ava DuVernay’s ARRAY Releasing is releasing the New Zealand box-office hit Cousins directed by award-winning Māori filmmaking duo Ainsley Gardiner and Briar Grace-Smith. The film debuted theatrically in NYC on July 2nd, and premieres worldwide on Netflix on July 22nd.
The Macaluso Sisters, Italian writer-director Emma Dante’s moving adaptation of her award-winning play of the same name, will open on Friday, August 6 exclusively at New York’s Film Forum and in select theaters nationwide throughout August.
