
SFFILM announced the lineup for the ninth annual Hong Kong Cinema series, taking place July 12 to 14 at New People Cinema and the Roxie Theater in San Francisco.

Kino Lorber will release The Chambermaid (La camarista), the auspicious and engaging film debut by Mexican director-actress-dramatist Lila Avilés, recently named one of Variety’s “10 Latinxs to Watch 2019.”

The Shepherd directed by László Illés is a historical drama taking place in Hungarian territory occupied by the Nazi’s in 1944. The film which is poised to debut at film festivals across the globe is meant to be a tribute to everyday unsung heroes and their selfless sacrifices for mankind.

Netflix has acquired worldwide rights to Mati Diop’s award winning film Atlantics that premiered at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Grand Prix. Atlantics is Diop’s feature directorial debut and she is the first black woman ever to compete for the Palme d’Or.

The Reports on Sarah and Saleem is a riveting, suspenseful drama of an extra marital affair between a Palestinian man and an Israeli woman. It’s not long before security services are on to the affair and a simple extramarital affair becomes a spy sensation. Directed by Muayad Alaywan, the film starring Adeeb Safadi (Saleem), Sivane Kretchner (Sarah), Ishai Golan (David) and Mais Abd Elhadi (Bisan) will open on June 12 at Film Forum in New York and June 14 in Los Angeles.

After world premiering at the 2018 Toronto Film Festival, Ever After (Endzeit) directed by Carolina Hellsgård will open theatrically at the IFC Center in New York on June 21. Many other cities will follow.

Dominga Sotomayor’s Too Late to Die Young (Tarde para morir joven) starring trans actor Demian Hernández – who has transitioned since production – in the role of Sofía, and inspired by the director’s own childhood, opens on Friday, May 31 at Film at Lincoln Center in New York, and on Friday, June 7 at the Laemmle Music Hall in Los Angeles, followed by other cities.

Sick Sick Sick (Sem seu sangue) by Brazilian director Alice Furtado will have its World Premiere at the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs (Directors’ Fortnight) in Cannes. It is her feature debut as director.

The Road to Mother (Anaga aparar jol), Kazakhstan’s official submission for the 2017 Academy Awards in the category of Best Foreign Language Film will be released in theaters throughout the U.S. starting May 10, 2019 via World Wide Motion Pictures Corporation.

The powerful film Sobibor tells the true story of the only successful revolt in a Nazi death camp during World War II. Directed by Konstantin Khabenskiy, the film was Russia’s Official Selectionon for Foreign-Language Oscar. Samuel Goldwyn will release Sobibor March 29, 2019 in Los Angeles at Laemmle Music Hall, and nationwide on digital/VOD.

The Brazilian horror film Cannibal Club, directed by Guto Parente, will premiere in North America this March via Uncork’d Entertainment, opening in theaters on March 1st and available On Demand March 5th.

The Iranian black comedy Pig (Khook) that world premiered at the 2018 Berlin Film Festival, opened at New York’s IFC Center on February 1, to be followed by the Laemmle Theater in Los Angeles on February 15.
