Vertical Entertainment acquired writer-director Sabrina Doyle’s debut feature drama film “Lorelei” which premiered at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival. The film starring Jena Malone (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, The Neon Demon) and Emmy and Tony nominee Pablo Schreiber (13 Hours, Orange is the New Black) is expected to be released in theaters and on demand this summer.

IFC Films acquired the The Nowhere Inn, produced, written by, and starring Carrie Brownstein and Annie ‘St. Vincent’ Clark from first-time filmmaker and frequent Portlandia collaborator / writer Bill Benz. Grasshopper Film released the official trailer for The Inheritance, the feature debut film by Ephraim Asili inventively weaving together the history of the MOVE liberation group, the Black Arts Movement, and his own formative experiences in a Black Marxist collective.
Magnolia Pictures acquired the psychological horror film Censor, the debut feature by Prano Bailey-Bond and starring Niamh Algar (Calm With Horses, “Raised by Wolves”) which had its World Premiere at Sundance Film Festival opening the Midnight Section. Magnolia Pictures is targeting June 11 release date following the film’s screening in the Berlinale Panorama section in March.
RLJE Films and Netflix acquired The Water Man, the directorial debut of actor David Oyelowo (Selma), which he also stars in along with Rosario Dawson (“Luke Cage”). In North America the film is expected to be released day-and-date in theaters and PVOD on May 7, 2021 and Netflix will release the film internationally later this year. The film had its world premiere at the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival and also opened this year’s Urbanworld Film Festival.
In the psychological thriller Rose Plays Julie starring Ann Skelly, Orla Brady and Aidan Gillen, an adoptee’s search for identity leads to a dark turn of events. Written and directed by Christine Molloy and Joe Lawlor, the film nominated for “Best Film” at the London Film Festival, will open in virtual cinema, VOD and digital on March 19, 2021.
