Artsploitation Films and Kino Lorber released Benjamin, a quirky, anxiety-fueled gay rom-com directed by Simon Amstell (“Nevermind the Buzzcocks”) and starring Colin Morgan (Merlin, The Happy Prince), on DVD and digital platforms including Kino Now.

The American Film Institute (AFI) and Universal Pictures announced the launch of a week-long AFI Movie Club event called “Black Stories Matter,” spotlighting diverse and unique narratives from celebrated Black films. Born from a recent AFI/Universal collaboration honoring Do the Right Thing and Academy Award®-winning director Spike Lee, the expanded partnership will pay tribute to notable films BlacKkKlansman, Get Out, Girls Trip, Loving and Straight Outta Compton with free digital movie rentals available all week. The family-friendly independent film The Terrible Adventure written, directed and produced by Florida father Kel Thompson, and starring his two kids Olivia Thompson (9) and Jackson Thompson (12), will premiere at Dances With Films.

The new trailer debuted for The Planters, a dark comedy written, directed, starring and crewed by longtime friends Alexandra Kotcheff and Hannah Leder. 1091 Pictures is set to release the film in theaters in September 2020 followed by a rollout on digital and on-demand December 8th.

Although the pandemic has slowed productions, filming began in florida on the dramatic horror film “Call Time” directed by 20/20 Vizion Derrick Hammond and written by Nicanson Guerrier. The movie is being shot on a closed set in adherence for COVID-19 regulation on precaution in a historic private location tucked away in Alachua, Florida.

The queer coming-of-age comedy Summerland, which lands on VOD on September 14, released a brand spanking new trailer. The indie comedy directed by Lankyboy, a directing duo made up of Kurtis David Harder and Noah Kentis, and starring Maddie Phillips of Netflix’s Teenage Bounty Hunters, follows three friends all trying desperately to find themselves, while trying not to drive off the road in the process.
