Amazon Prime released the official trailer for Lovers Rock, the second film in Steve McQueen’s Small Axe anthology. Small Axe will premiere with Mangrove starring Letitia Wright and Shaun Parkes on Friday, November 20, with a new film premiering each Friday as follows: Lovers Rock on 11/27 starring Micheal Ward and Amarah-Jae St. Aubyn, Red, White and Blue on 12/4 starring John Boyega, Alex Wheatle on 12/11 with newcomer Sheyi Cole, and the final film Education on 12/18 featuring Kenyah Sandy.

Samuel Goldwyn Films will release the new romantic comedy Modern Persuasion, starring Alicia Witt (I Care A Lot, “Orange Is The New Black”, Two Weeks Notice) on-demand and digital on December 18, 2020.

Bleecker Street released the official trailer for Wild Mountain Thyme starring Emily Blunt, Jamie Dornan, Jon Hamm, Dearbhla Molloy and Christopher Walken. The film, based on the play “Outside Mullingar” by John Patrick Shanley, and written for the screen and directed by John Patrick Shanley, opens in theaters and on demand December 11th, 2020.

Vertical Entertainment will release Brothers By Blood, formerly called The Sound of Philadelphia, starring Matthias Schoenaerts (Rust and Bone, Bullhead), Joel Kinnaman (Altered Carbon, The Killing), Maika Monroe (It Follows, The Guest), and Ryan Phillippe (Crash, Cruel Intentions). The film was written and directed by Jérémie Guez and is an adaptation of Pete Dexter’s 1991 novel “Brotherly Love”. The film which world premiered at Tribeca Film Festival will be released in select theaters and on VOD and digital on January 22, 2021.

The family and faith-themed drama “Pass The Light” will be released digitally through Freestyle Digital Media on December 4th and on DVD on December 8, 2020.

Forty-one films and series are nominated for this year for the 30th Annual IFP Gotham Awards, considered one of the leading awards for independent film and signaling the kick-off to the film awards season. Best Feature nominations went to The Assistant, First Cow, Never Rarely Sometimes Always, Nomadland, and Relic, becoming the first time all of the best feature nominees are directed by women. In total, eleven competitive awards will be presented to independent features and series.

The Canadian comedy The Twentieth Century from director Matthew Rankin, and starring Daniel Beirne, Sarianne Cormier, Mikhaïl Ahooja, Catherine St-Laurent, Seán Cullen, along with Trevor Anderson will open in Virtual Cinemas on November 20, 2020. The film is a satire of the rise to power of young politician William Lyon Mackenzie King, who would go on to become a long-serving prime minister of Canada.

IFC Films today released the official trailer for the David Bowie glam-rock, road-trip film Stardust, starring award-winning actor and musician Johnny Flynn (EMMA.; Clouds of Sils Maria) as the legendary music icon.

Oscar nominee Deepa Mehta’s latest film Funny Boy was acquired by Ava DuVernay’s ARRAY Releasing. Widely known for her trilogy films, Fire (1996), Earth (1998) and Water (2005), Mehta’s latest is based on the best-selling Canadian novel by Shyam Selvadurai. ARRAY will release Funny Boy in select cities and on Netflix beginning Thursday, December 10.
