
Hot Docs Festival announced the 15 films in the 2021 Special Presentations program, showcasing high-profile premieres, award winners, and works by master filmmakers or featuring star subjects.

Here is the first teaser trailer for “The Spine of Night” an ultra-violent, hand-rotoscoped epic fantasy inspired by the cult classic works of animators Ralph Bakshi and Frank Franzetta. The fantasy/animation/horror film Spine of Night directed by Philip Gelatt and Morgan Galen King will have its World Premiere at SXSW on March 18, 2021.

Uncork’d Entertainment released the trailer for Patricio Valladares’ terrifying Embryo, which premiered at Frightest 2020, and set for released on Digital on April 6, 2021.

ArtMattan Films will release the award-winning Canadian drama film Kuessipan by Myriam Verreault, adapted from the acclaimed novel Kuessipan and co-written with the novel’s First Nation Canadian author Naomi Fontaine. Kuessipan means “your turn” in the Innu language, a title chosen to mark the notion that it is the Innu people’s turn to tell their story.

IFC Films acquired Sonia Kennebeck’s documentary thriller Enemies of the State, which investigates the complicated and bizarre case of alleged Wikileaks courier and Anonymous hacker Matt DeHart. IFC Films will release the film this summer.

Netflix released the official trailer for “This Is a Robbery: The World’s Biggest Art Heist” the new documentary series on the unsolved robbery of Boston’s Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in 1990. The documentary launches on Netflix on April 7th.

HBO released the official trailer for the documentary titled TINA, billed as an unvarnished and dynamic account of the life and career of music icon Tina Turner featuring a wealth of never-before-seen footage, audio tapes, personal photos, and new interviews, including with the singer herself.

IFCFilms released the trailer for the film Moffie from South African director Oliver Hermanus exploring life of a closeted young boy serving his mandatory military service during Apartheid in 1980s South Africa.

HBO released the official trailer for “Q: Into The Storm” a six-part documentary series directed by Cullen Hoback (“Terms and Conditions May Apply”). The HBO documentary series debuts with two back-to-back episodes Sunday, March 21 (9:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT), with new episodes airing back-to-back subsequent Sundays at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

In celebration of International Women’s Day, HBO Max released the trailer for the upcoming documentary film LFG, [“Let’s F—ing Go!”], a no-holds-barred, inside account of the U.S. women’s national team’s ongoing fight for equal pay as told by Megan Rapinoe, Jessica McDonald, Becky Sauerbrunn, Kelley O’Hara, Sam Mewis and others. The film is directed by Academy Award(R)-winners Andrea Nix Fine and Sean Fine.

The coming-out drama film Sweetheart directed by Marley Morrison was voted the Audience Award winner of the 2021 Glasgow Film Festival. Sweetheart is a sharply observed coming-of-age story that charts the relationship between two young women, during a summer holiday at a caravan park in Dorset. The Audience Award is the only award given by GFF and is voted for by the audience.
