Sundance Institute selected 22 independent nonfiction filmmakers and their projects for the latest Grantees of the Institute’s Documentary Fund. Grant support, unrestricted and totaling $520,000, will be extended to projects in all stages of development, production, post-production and audience engagement.

Breaking Glass Pictures will release the documentary “Pornstar Pandemic: The Guys”, an intimate examination of LGBTQ adult actors and their lives during the COVID-19 quarantine. Directed by adult director Edward “EJ” James, and executive produced by Breaking Glass CEO Rich Wolff, Pornstar Pandemic: The Guys will arrive July 28 on DVD and all major VOD platforms.

Miami Film Festival will world premiere online A Mother (Una madre), directed by emerging Colombian filmmaker Diógenes Cuevas, after the Festival’s intended world premiere at its 37th edition in March was cancelled due to a mid-festival termination caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

ABC will broadcast The Last Dance, the 10-part sports documentary chronicling the life and career of legendary basketball Hall of Famer Michael Jordan and the celebrated Chicago Bulls’ teams of the 1990s, beginning Saturday, May 23 (8:00-10:02 p.m. EDT)

The LGBTQIA+ focused OUTstream Film Fest, which will make its debut June 1-7, 2020 – timed to kick off Pride month – announced its lineup of titles. Two festival-favorite documentaries will open and close the brand new film festival, with Michael Barnett’s CHANGING THE GAME opening OUTstream Film Fest and David Charles Rodrigues’ GAY CHORUS DEEP SOUTH taking the Closing Night slot.

Showtime released the official trailer for the award-winning documentary Ringside, which premieres on the cable network on Friday, June 12 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT. Filmed over the course of nine years by award-winning director Andre Hörmann, Ringside chronicles the dramatic upbringing of two boxing prodigies and follows the divergent paths they take as they navigate life’s uncertainties on the South Side of Chicago.

Over 140 documentary films will be showcased as part of 2020 Hot Docs Festival Online, which starts May 28. Among the documentaries featured at the festival include Finding Sally, directed by Tamara Mariam Dawit; and the World Premiere of First We Eat directed by Suzanne Crocker; and Meat the Future directed by Liz Marshall.

Kino Lorber released the official trailer for Tommaso that premiered in the Special Screenings section at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. Directed by Abel Ferrara (Bad Lieutenant), the autobiographically inspired film stars Willem Dafoe as a charismatic artist riddled with self-doubt, alongside cast including Anna Ferrara, Cristina Chiriac, Stella Mastrantonio andAlessandro Prato.

Vision Films will release the heartwarming indie family film Horse Camp: A Love Tail starring Home Improvement’s Richard Karn, Dazed and Confused’s Jason London, Kristin Mellian, Teri Lee, Kristen Ryda, Rachel Sowers, and Jo Ambrosia, Horse Camp: A Love Tail on DVD and VOD from May 19, 2020.

Hola Mexico Film Festival which has been postponed until September 2020, wants to help give viewers a chance to see some of the best films that have come out of Mexico in recent years with the launch of the Hola Mexico Virtual Theater online film series starting May 21.

Unsettled: Seeking Refuge in America, a documentary directed by Tom Shepard reveals the untold stories of LGBTQ refugees and asylum-seekers. Unsettled had its World Premiere at the San Francisco International Film Festival and is the winner of the Best Documentary Feature Film at 2019 Outfest (playing at 55 festivals worldwide and winning 14 other top awards). Unsettled will lead Doc World’s new season which broadcasts on public media’s WORLD Channel on June 28 and will be available for streaming on WorldChannel.org through July 12.
