
HBO announced three short films winners of HBO Latinx Short Film competition, selected from the 2019 Official Latino Film and Arts Festival (OLFAF) alumni.

The 19th annual Tribeca Film Festival announced its 2020 Shorts Program lineup of 64 diverse and captivating short films including DreamWorks Animation’s new animated short, To Gerard. For the fourth consecutive year, 40 percent of the selections are directed by female filmmakers. Queen Collective by Procter & Gamble in partnership with Queen Latifah, Flavor Unit Entertainment and Tribeca Studios is back, a program dedicated to supporting gender and racial equality behind the camera.The 2020 Tribeca Film Festival takes place April 15 – April 26.

Winners of the 2020 Sundance Film Festival jury prizes in short filmmaking were announced last night in Park City, Utah with the Short Film Grand Jury Prize going to So What If The Goats Die, directed and written by Sofia Alaoui.

International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) announced the the winners of this year’s 2020 Ammodo Tiger Short Competition winning films – Apparition by Ismaïl Bahri, Communicating Vessels by Maïder Fortuné and Annie MacDonell, and Sun Dog by Dorian Jespers. The jury gave a special mention to Wong Ping’s Fables 2 by Wong Ping.

From April 21 to 26, 2020, the 32nd Filmfest Dresden will take place in the state capital of Saxony in Dresden, Germany, featuring an exciting festival program with the best short films from across the world.

Little Chief, a narrative short film directed by Indigenous filmmaker Erica Tremblay (Seneca-Cayuga), will world premiere as part of the Shorts Selection at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. The story stars an Indigenous cast, including Starring Lily Gladstone as Sharon, Julian Ballentyne as Bear and Lily Gladstone (Certain Women, Billions); and was produced through the Sundance Institute Native Filmmakers Lab.

Sundance Film Festival announced the works selected across the Indie Episodic, Shorts and Special Events sections of the 2020 Festival. Of the projects announced, 48% were directed or created by one or more women, 33% were directed or created by one or more filmmaker of color, and 19% by one or more people who identify as LGBTQIA. 7 were supported by Sundance Institute in development, whether through direct granting or Labs.

The Intercept released “Drowning by Sunrise,” a short documentary focused on an investigation into the death of 16-year-old Damain Martin in Broward County, Florida.

21 short films are selected for the Ammodo Tiger Short Competition at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) with the jury consisting of Nathanja van Dijk, Safia Benhaim and Greg de Cuir Jr.
