Actors Anna Kendrick, Zoe Saldana, and Common announced the nominations for the 2013 Film Independent Spirit Awards this morning. Silver Linings Playbook and Moonrise Kingdom led with 5 nominations each; followed by Keep the Lights On , Beasts of the Southern Wild and Middle of Nowhere with 4 nominations each. Nominees for Best Feature include Beasts of the Southern Wild, Bernie, Keep the Lights On, Moonrise Kingdom, and Silver Linings Playbook.
Starlet was selected to receive the annual Robert Altman Award, which is bestowed upon one film’s director, casting director and ensemble cast.
Winners will be announced at the Spirit Awards on Saturday, February 23, 2013.
The 22nd Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards were held last night in New York City at the Cipriani Wall Street, Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom took the top prize for Best Feature Film and How to Survive a Plague took the best prize for Best Documentary.
Benh Zeitlin won the Best Director award for his work on the superb indie drama, “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” and Jared Leto’s documentary, “Artifact,” received the Gotham Independent Film Audience Award, voted online.
In addition the awards (see more below) Marion Cotillard, Matt Damon, David O. Russell and Jeffrey Skoll received Career Tributes.
First time writer/director Emin Alper’s TEPENIN ARDI (BEYOND THE HILL, Turkey/Greece) won the top prize, the Best Feature Film award at the sixth Asia Pacific Screen Awards, on Friday night in Brisbane, Australia.
In the film set in the quiet foothills of Turkey, Faik lives an isolated existence. When his second son brings his boys for a visit, Faik takes the opportunity to pontificate about the law of the land, as he sees it. He shares one unsolicited thought after the next, most particularly focusing on the elusive nomads whom he suspects have been trespassing on his property. The day and night wear on, and each member of the clan takes his turn entrusting the film’s audience with his own dark secret.
Also from Turkey, writer/director Reis Çelik received the award for Best Screenplay for LAL GECE (NIGHT OF SILENCE) and the award for Achievement in Cinematography went to Touraj Aslani for Bahman Ghobadi’s FASLE KARGADAN (RHINO SEASON), a co-production between Iraqi-Kurdistan and Turkey.
Twenty-one features have been submitted for consideration in the Animated Feature Film category for the 85th Academy Awards®.

Nominees in the sixth annual Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) were announced with 34 films from 18 Asia Pacific countries and areas nominated in the region’s highest accolade in film.
The five films nominated for Best Feature Film are Khers (Bear, Islamic Republic of Iran), Tepenin Ardi (Beyond the Hill, Turkey, Greece), Orda (The Horde, Russian Federation), Bumchoiwaui Junjaeng (Nameless Gangster: Rules of the Time, Republic of Korea) and Wu Xia (Hong Kong (PRC), People’s Republic of China).
