The American Film Institute (AFI) named Nicole Kidman the recipient of the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award, the highest honor for a career in film, celebrating her career achievements thus far. The award will be presented to Kidman at a Gala Tribute at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Saturday, June 10, 2023. She is the first Australian actor to receive this honor.
Everything Everywhere All At Once led the nominations for the 2023 Film Independent Spirit Awards with eight total nominations, including Best Director for Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert, and acting nominations for stars Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ke Huy Quan and Stephanie Hsu. Shaunak Sen’s Cannes-winning feature, All That Breathes, received six nominations, and Laura Poitras’ All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, winner of the Golden Lion at Venice, received four.
The European Film Academy revealed the nominees of the main categories of the 35th European Film Awards. Films nominated for European Film include Alcarràs directed by Carla Simón, Close directed by Lukas Dhont, Corsage directed by Marie Kreutzer, Holy Spider directed by Ali Abbasi, and Triangle of Sadness directed by Ruben Östlund.
Late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel will return to host the 95th Oscars set to air live on ABC on Sunday, March 12, 2023. Kimmel hosted back-to-back broadcasts in 2017 (89th Awards) and 2018 (90th Awards).
