The Peabody Awards revealed the eight winning films released in 2018 in the Documentary category, including Dolores, profile of unsung activists Dolores Huerta; A Dangerous Son on the challenges faced by parents of children living with mental health issues; and Minding the Gap, on the healing skateboarding provides for three young men transitioning into adulthood.
The Peabody Awards Board of Jurors announced the 60 nominees that represent the most compelling and empowering stories released in broadcasting and digital media during 2018. Thirty winners selected from amongst these nominees will be announced beginning next week.
Green Book took home the Oscar for Best Picture at the 91st Oscars. Regina King, Mahershala Ali, Rami Malek and Olivia Colman won in the acting categories and Spike Lee brought home Oscar for the very first time for Adapted Screenplay as a co-writer of BlacKkKlansman, and Free Solo won for best documentary. Roma won three including, best foreign language and another directing Oscar for Alfonso Cuarón.

The Writers Guild of America announced the winners of the 2019 Writers Guild Awards with the top film awards going to Bo Burnham for Eighth Grade for Original Screenplay, and Nicole Holofcener and Jeff Whitty for Can You Ever Forgive Me?, based on the book by Lee Israel for Adapted Screenplay. Bathtubs Over Broadway, written by Ozzy Inguanzo & Dava Whisenant won the award for Documentary Screenplay.
The Favourite won seven BAFTAs at the EE British Academy Film Awards including the award for Outstanding British Film, with Olivia Colman receiving the BAFTA for Leading Actress, Rachel Weisz taking Supporting Actress and Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara winning Original Screenplay. Sandy Powell won Costume Design, Fiona Crombie and Alice Felton won Production Design and Nadia Stacey won Make Up & Hair.
The winners of the 44th Annual HUMANITAS Prize were announced on Friday with prizes going to ON THE BASIS OF SEX for Drama Feature Film, LOVE, SIMON for Comedy Feature Film, STOLEN DAUGHTERS: KIDNAPPED BY BOKO HARAM for Documentary, and BRIAN BANKS for Independent Feature Film.
Alfonso Cuarón continued his winning record for Roma, snagging the Directors Guild of America’s Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for Roma at the 71st Annual DGA Awards. He won the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film in 2013 for Gravity. Bo Burnham won the Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement of a First-Time Feature Film Director for Eighth Grade; and Tim Wardle won the Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Documentary for Three Identical Strangers.
GLAAD, the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) media advocacy organization, announced the nominees for the 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards at the Sundance Film Festival. Among the nominees: The Favourite, Can You Ever Forgive Me?, Boy Erased, Love Simon, and The Miseducation of Cameron Post. GLAAD announced Special Recognition Awards for Nanette, a Netflix special starring queer comedian Hannah Gadsby; TransMilitary, a documentary which premiered on Logo and spotlighted the lives of transgender service members; and House of Mamis, a Spanish-language docuseries about a LGBTQ voguing community in Mexico City which ran on LGBTQ site INTOMore.com.
Mahershala Ali, Emily Blunt, Rami Malek and Glenn Close were honored with coveted Actor statuettes for performances in motion pictures of 2018 at the 25th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. The Actor for a motion picture cast performance along with the award for stunt ensemble went to Black Panther.
Actor-comedian and Oscar–nominated writer Kumail Nanjiani and actress–producer–director Tracee Ellis Ross announced the 91st Oscars nominations today, dominated by Roma and The Favourite, each receiving 10 nominations.
Alfonso Cuarón’s Mexican drama Roma was named Film of the Year, while Cuarón also won Director of the Year at the 39th London Critics’ Circle Film Awards ceremony on Sunday night.
