The North Dakota Film Society Awards celebrate the best achievements in cinema of 2020. David Fincher’s “Mank” received 8 nominations, the most of any film. but failed to earn one of the five Best Picture slots, which went to Kelly Reichardt’s “First Cow”, Charlie Kaufman’s “I’m Thinking of Ending Things”, Eliza Hittman’s “Never Rarely Sometimes Always”, Chloé Zhao’s “Nomadland”, and Emerald Fennell’s “Promising Young Woman”.
Sound of Metal leads the nominations for San Diego Film Critics Society 2020 awards with 8 nominations including Best Picture, Best Director for Darius Marder, Best Actor for Riz Ahmed and Best Supporting Actress for Olivia Cooke. First Cow and Nomadland also received multiple nominations including for Best Picture and Best Director. Fashion designer Pierre Cardin, profiled in the 2019 documentary House of Cardin, died on Tuesday at the American Hospital in Neuilly-sur-Seine, just outside Paris. He was 98.
