  • JUNO Star Ellen Page Comes Out “I Am Gay” | Watch VIDEO

Ellen Page at the Time to THRIVE LGBT Conference

Ellen Page, who got her break in JUNO which premiered at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival, revealed over the weekend that she is gay.  Page, 26, made the announcement at the Time to THRIVE, a conference to promote the welfare of LGBT youth held at Bally’s Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“I’m here today because I am gay, and because maybe I can make a difference. To help others have an easier and more hopeful time. Regardless, for me, I feel a personal obligation and a social responsibility.”

“I am tired of hiding and I am tired of lying by omission. I suffered for years because I was scared to be out. My spirit suffered, my mental health suffered and my relationships suffered. And I’m standing here today, with all of you, on the other side of all that pain.”

  • Eliza Hittman’s IT FELT LIKE LOVE to Open in NY on March 21st and LA on March 28th | VIDEO

Eliza Hittman's debut feature film IT FELT LIKE LOVE

Eliza Hittman’s debut feature film IT FELT LIKE LOVE which premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival will open in New York on March 21st and Los Angeles on March 28th, 2014. IT FELT LIKE LOVE tells the story of fourteen year-old Lila played by Gina Piersanti, who’s sexual quest takes a dangerous turn when she pursues an older guy and tests the boundaries between obsession and love.

Fourteen-year-old Lila is experiencing an ennui-filled Brooklyn summer. She awkwardly wears a Kabuki-esque mask of sunscreen at the beach and plays third wheel to Chiara, her more experienced friend, and Chiara’s boyfriend, Patrick. Determined to have a love interest of her own, a bravado-filled Lila pursues Sammy, a tough but handsome older boy. Though Sammy doesn’t respond to her overtures, he doesn’t reject her either, and Lila—unable to resist spinning delusional fables of a relationship with him—manipulates herself deeper into his world. When her desperation and posturing carry her too far into unfamiliar territory, her inexperience is exposed, and she is forced to confront reality.

In this film shot from Lila’s point of view and constructed with precise—sometimes startling—imagery and intimate moments, first-time feature writer/director Eliza Hittman confidently constructs a viewing experience that is completely subjective. Bolstered by a perfectly modulated lead performance from Gina Piersanti, It Felt Like Love unflinchingly reveals some of the rawest moments of girlhood in an authentic story of burgeoning identity and sexual awakening. | Sundance Film Festival

  • COMING SOON: Academy Award-winner Melissa Leo Joins The Cast of Ian Olds’ THE FIXER

    Academy Award-winner Melissa LeoMelissa Leo

Academy Award-winner Melissa Leo joins Ian Olds’ THE FIXER (written by Paul Felten and Ian Olds) as Gloria, the ex-hippie sheriff of a small, darkly eccentric Northern California town. Leo joins James Franco who plays Lindsay, an unstable hot-tub craftsman. Olds and Felten wrote the part of Gloria with Melissa Leo in mind, who previously worked with Olds’ in his short film BOMB (Sundance Film Festival, 2007).

THE FIXER tells the story of Osman, an Afghan journalist exiled from his war-torn country to a small bohemian community in Northern California. When he attempts to turn his menial job on the local police blotter into “Afghan-style” coverage of local crime he gets drawn into the backwoods of this small town—a shadow Northern California where sex is casual, true friendship is hard to come by, and an unfamiliar form of violence burbles up all around him.

Debbie DeLisi of DeLisi Creative joins the project in an international, national and local search for the leading role of Osman, the charismatic 28-year-old journalist from Afghanistan. DeLisi Creative was part of the team behind the successful search for the Somali pirates in Captain Phillips.  Thanks to the San Francisco Film Society’s SFFS/KRF Filmmaking and a partnership with the Afghan Coalition, DeLisi will be holding an open audition outside of San Francisco in Fremont, California for the film’s lead Afghan actor on Sunday, February 16.

The Fixer is produced by Caroline von Kuhn, ACE Productions and Vince Jolivette, Rabbit Bandini, with a summer shoot in Northern California and Morocco (to double for Afghanistan).
