Screen Actors Guild Announces Results of 2010 National Board Elections
Screen Actors Guild today announced elections results for the Guild’s National Board of Directors. Twenty-seven (27) of the 69 National Board seats were open for election this year, representing Screen Actors Guild’s Hollywood, New York and Regional Branch Divisions. The newly elected National Board members will assume office on September 25. SAG’s Hollywood Division elected thirteen new National Board members; the New York Division elected five members; and nine National Board members were elected from the union’s Branches in Arizona, Chicago, Florida, Georgia, Houston, New Mexico, San Francisco, Seattle and Utah.

Joint AFTRA and SAG National Board Approves Proposals for Primetime TV and Theatrical Negotiations
The Joint National Board of Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA, AFL-CIO) today met by videoconference plenary in Los Angeles and New York and approved a package of proposals for the upcoming Joint AFTRA Exhibit A and SAG TV/Theatrical Negotiations.

Brownlow, Coppola, Godard and Wallach to Receive Academy’s Governors Awards
Francis Ford Coppola The Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences voted last night to present the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award to producer-director Francis Ford Coppola and Honorary Awards to historian and preservationist Kevin Brownlow, director Jean-Luc Godard and actor Eli Wallach. All four awards will be presented at the Academy’s 2nd Annual Governors Awards dinner on Saturday, November 13, at the Grand Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland Center®.

San Francisco Film Society Announces Finalists for Fall 2011 Djerassi Screenwriting Residency Award
San Francisco Film Society announced the six finalists for the 2011 Djerassi Residency Award/San Francisco Film Society Screenwriting Fellowship. The fellowship is part of the Film Society’s suite of filmmaker services designed to foster creativity and further the careers of independent filmmakers. The Djerassi Resident Artists Program, located 40 miles south of San Francisco in the Santa Cruz Mountains overlooking the Pacific Ocean, offers living and studio accommodations and all meals at no cost to an emerging or established screenwriter from August 9 through September 8, 2011. The award provides uninterrupted time for work, reflection and collegial interaction, making the opportunity unique in its capacity to provide the winner with an inspiring and supportive environment in a stunning rural location. The finalists were selected from 67 applicants submitted in response to an international call for entries. This award is supported by a gift from Dale Djerassi. Finalists and projects follow.

Academy Announces Finalists for 2010 Student Academy Awards
Thirty-seven students from 21 colleges and universities have been selected as finalists in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ 37th Annual Student Academy Awards competition. Academy members will view these films at special screenings and vote to select the winners. Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal awards, along with accompanying cash prizes of $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000, respectively, may be presented in each of four categories. The winning filmmakers will be brought to Los Angeles for a week of industry-related activities and social events that will culminate in the awards ceremony on Saturday, June 12, at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Tribeca Film Institute announces Recipients of 2010 Gucci Tribeca Documentary Fund
The Tribeca Film Institute and Gucci announced the recipients selected for the 2010 Gucci Tribeca Documentary Fund which provides finishing finances to domestic and international documentary filmmakers with feature-length films that document pressing social issues of immediate and historical significance. In the third year of the fund, seven projects have been selected from 390 submissions from 23 countries to receive a total of $100,000, to be administered by the Tribeca Film Institute (TFI).
The projects were selected by a committee consisting of Diana Barrett, Liz Garbus, Simon Kilmurry, Trevor Neilson, and Mariane Pearl who chose the recipients from finalists previously selected by TFI. The projects that will receive funding are:
