The Sundance Film Festival added four films to the 2013 Festival, including Magic Magic (Director: Sebastián Silva), Muscle Shoals (Director: Greg ‘Freddy’ Camalier) and Wrong Cops (Director: Quentin Dupieux) as well as El Mariachi (1993) for the From the Collection screening. The 2013 Festival will be January 17-27 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah.
El Mariachi is part of The Sundance Collection at UCLA (The Collection), a film preservation program established in 1997.
With the addition of these four films, the 2013 Sundance Film Festival will present 119 feature-length films, representing 32 countries and 51 first-time filmmakers, including 27 in competition.
The 2013 Golden Globes nominations were announced this morning and Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln led with 7 nominations but multiple nominations also for smaller films like Silver Linings Playbook and Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. Salmon Fishing in the Yemen and Silver Linings Playbook were both nominated for Best Picture, Musical or Comedy.
The Globes telecast will be broadcast on Jan. 13, 2013 on NBC hosted by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey.
Nominations for the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards® for outstanding performances in 2012 in five film and eight primetime television categories as well as the SAG Awards honors for outstanding action performances by film and television stunt ensembles were announced on Wednesday morning in Los Angeles.
Silver Linings Playbook tied with Lincoln and Les Miserables for films with most nominations, at four each. Silver Linings Playbook received nominations for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role – BRADLEY COOPER, Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role – JENNIFER LAWRENCE, Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role – ROBERT DE NIRO, and Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

Lad: A Yorkshire Story, directed by Dan Hartley was awarded the top prize, the Golden Oosikars for Best Feature at the 2012 Anchorage International Film Festival which ran November 30 to December 12, 2012 in Anchorage, Alaska. Set in the starkly beautiful Yorkshire Dales, the film is described as a heart-warming tale of two individuals overcoming adversity and in the process forming a unique and inspiring friendship.
Roadmap to Apartheid, directed by Ana Nogueira won the award for Best Documentary. Co- directors Ana Nogueira and Eron Davidson are respectively a white South African and a Jewish Israeli. Drawing on their first-hand knowledge of the issues, the directors take a close look at the apartheid comparison often used to describe the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Their film breaks down the rhetorical analogy into a fact-based comparison, noting where the analogy is useful and appropriate, and where it is not. Their film is as much a historical document of the rise and fall of Apartheid as it is a film about why Palestinians feel that they are living in an Apartheid system today, and why an increasing number of people around the world agree with them.

Films from the 2013 Sundance Film Festival will screen in 10 independent theaters in cities across the country on January 31 as part of the Sundance Film Festival USA initiative. Audiences in 10 cities will have the opportunity to share in the excitement of discovery of a film fresh from the 2013 Festival as well as hear directly from the filmmaker about their work.
Each of 10 filmmakers will travel to one of the following cities: Ann Arbor, MI; Boston, MA; Brooklyn, NY; Chicago, IL; Houston, TX; Los Angeles, CA; Nashville, TN; Orlando, FL; San Francisco, CA; and Tucson, AZ. In each city, the filmmaker will introduce and screen their film and participate in a Q&A with the audience.

The Los Angeles Film Critics Association picked “Amour” Michael Haneke’s film about an elderly couple dealing with ageing and dementia “as the best film of 2012. “The Master” which stars Joaquin Phoenix as a World War II veteran who comes under the sway of a charismatic cult leader was chosen as best-picture runner-up.
“The Master” did win four awards including best director for Paul Thomas Anderson, best actor for Joaquin Phoenix, supporting actress for Amy Adams and production design for David Crank and Jack Fisk.
38th Annual Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award Winners:
The 15th Moët British Independent Film Awards winners were announced at the star-studded ceremony on Sunday night and BERBERIAN SOUND STUDIO won the most awards on the night, picking up four trophies for Best Director, Best Actor, Best Achievement In Production and Best Technical Achievement. THE IMPOSTER won two awards: Best British Documentary and The Douglas Hickox Award (Directorial Debut) for Bart Layton, matching the tally for BROKEN which also won two for Best British Independent Film and Best Supporting Actor. SIGHTSEERS won Best Screenplay and THE HUNT was awarded Best International Independent Film. James Floyd picked up the Most Promising Newcomer Award for his role in MY BROTHER THE DEVIL.
Best British Independent Film was won by BROKEN with Peter Strickland picking up Best Director for BERBERIAN SOUND STUDIO; Andrea Riseborough won Best Actress for SHADOW DANCERand Toby Jones won Best Actor for BERBERIAN SOUND STUDIO. Olivia Colman collected her second BIFA in two years, this time for Best Supporting Actress for HYDE PARK ON HUDSON and Rory Kinnear took home Best Supporting Actor for BROKEN.
