Gasparilla International Film Festival revealed today that Jim Kohlberg’s The Music Never Stopped will be the opening film of 2011 festival. The film’s producer will be in attendance for this Southeastern U.S. premier, along with GIFF’s honorary guest, M. Emmet Walsh.

The Sundance Film Festival is going to London. Sundance London, a four-day multi-disciplinary arts festival that will include film screenings, live music performances, discussions, panels and other public cultural programming will be held April 26th – 29th, 2012 at the world’s most popular music and entertainment venue, The O2.

The 8th annual San Francisco Ocean Film Festival announced the six award recipients chosen from its lineup of more than 50 films. Awards include two new categories this year, for best short film as well as best conservation film.

Whole Foods Market is launching their own film festival. The retailer announced the debut of its nationwide “Whole Foods Market Do Something Reel” Film Festival. The festival will launch April 1, 2011, and travel to 70 cities across the U.S. in celebration of Earth Month.

The awards this year was anything but boring. Stars from all over attended the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television 31st Annual Genie Awards that took place in Ottawa this year. Barney’s Version followed closely behind, winning seven Genie Awards including Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role (Paul Giamatti), Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role (Dustin Hoffman) and Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role (Minnie Driver). The Golden Reel Award went to Resident Evil: Afterlife as it collected $7,026,559 in Canadian box office receipts last year.

The Full Frame Documentary Film Festival has just announced the 66 selections for the NEW DOCS program. The program consists of 43 feature films and 23 shorts from all over the world.
The 2011 Tribeca Film Festival (TFF), today announced its lineup of 60 short films, 22 of which are world premieres.
Also new this year, the recipient of the TFF Best Narrative Short award will qualify for consideration in the Short Films category of the annual Academy Awards®.
