AFI FEST 2024 announced the Grand Jury Award short film winners and Special Mentions. The Grand Jury Award winners for Live Action Short, Documentary Short and Animated Short will be eligible for the 2024 Best Live Action Short, Best Documentary Short and Best Animated Short Academy Awards.
Marking the feature film directorial debut of director Jean Shim, A Great Divide is a family drama film telling the story of a Korean-American family leaving the Bay Area for a fresh start in the rural expanses of Wyoming, only to encounter hostility and xenophobia in their new community. The film had its world premiere at the Bentonville Film Festival.
Los Frikis directed by Tyler Nilson and Michael Schwartz won Best Narrative Feature and The World According to Allee Willis directed by Alexis Manya Spraic won Best Documentary Feature at the 22nd Tallgrass Film Festival.
The Edward Berger drama Conclave alongside other acclaimed titles Sam Yates’ feature debut, Magpie, Steve McQueens’ WWII drama Blitz, A Real Pain directed by Jesse Eisenberg, Ash Avildsen directed Queen of the Ring, and Nickel Boys directed by RaMell Ross, are the finalists for the Best Feature Film Award at the 15th Twin Cities Film Festival (TCFF).
The International Documentary Association (IDA) unveiled the shortlist for this year’s IDA Documentary Awards. The shortlist was selected from more than 700 entries across all categories, representing 77 countries.

The film stars Barbie Ferreira as a young woman who searches for her estranged father, Bob Trevino, online and forms a bond with a different man of the same name played by John Leguizamo.
Wrapping up on October 20th, the 25th edition of the Woodstock Film Festival announced the winners for this year’s jury award. My Dead Friend Zoe, directed by Kyle Hausmann Stokes won the Gigantic Pictures Award For Best Feature Narrative, along with the Haskell Wexler Award For Best Cinematography, and an Honorable Mention for the Best Narrative Editing Award.
Armand directed by Halfdan Ullman Tøndel won the Award for Best Narrative Feature at the 32nd Hamptons International Film Festival. Viktor, directed by Olivier Sarbil, received the Award for Best Documentary Feature.
Helmed by Alexis Spraic (Shadow Billionaire), The World According to Allee Willis is a documentary exploring the life of two-time Grammy-winning songwriter/artist Allee Willis. The documentary which world premiered at this year’s SXSW Festival, explores Willis’ struggle with her identity and societal pressure.
Directed by Mark Cousins, the documentary My Name is Alfred Hitchcock explores the life of one of cinema’s most influential directors. Ahead of the release, Cohen Media Group brought back Hitchcock’s most iconic films back to the big screen for an Alfred Hitchcock Retrospective program.
John Hsu’s Dead Talents Society dominated the 2024 Brooklyn Horror Film Festival (BHFF) winning Dark Matter Jury Awards for Best Film and Best Ensemble; along with the Audience Award.
