  • The 19th Annual Hamptons International Film Festival Announces 2011 Dates

    Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF)

    The Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) announced this year’s festival dates, Thursday, October 13 – Monday, October 17, 2011. The festival, which is usually held over Columbus Day Weekend, is launching one week later in 2011 in order to honor Yom Kippur, which falls during Columbus Day Weekend this year. HIFF plans to return to its regular Columbus Day Weekend dates in 2012 (October 4 – 8, 2012) to celebrate its 20th Anniversary.

  • Vancouver Film Critics’ Circle 2010 Awards

    The Vancouver Film Critics’ Circle named The Social Network the best film of the year, with Fincher as best director and Aaron Sorkin as the writer of the best screenplay.  Colin Firth picked up the award for Best Actor for The King’s Speech while newcomer Jennifer Lawrence took the award for Best Actress for her performance in Debra Granik’s Winter’s Bone.

    British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced the Longlist for the Orange British Academy Film Awards in 2011. The Longlist is the result of Round One voting by members of the Academy. With 207 films entered this year, the first round of voting reduces the list of eligible films to fifteen in each category . Round Two voting, which opens today, will reduce these fifteen contenders down to the five nominations in each category**. Appearing on the longlist does not constitute a nomination.     Sundance Institute announced a collaboration with YouTube to make available, in the YouTube Screening Room, 12 short films from the 2011 Sundance Film Festival as well as eight classic short films from Institute alumni and earlier Festivals. Each YouTube Screening Room series is scheduled to run for a span of six weeks. The first launch date is January 6, 2011 and will continue to release through February 3, 2011.
