  • Terry Gilliam presents “Idiots and Angels” by Oscar nominated Director Bill Plympton

    Olive Films will present the US theatrical release of Germany’s Oscar entry for 2011, WHEN WE LEAVE, a film by Feo Aladag, starring Sibel Kekilli (Head-On).  Winner of BEST FILM and BEST ACTRESS awards at 2010 Tribeca Film Festival, as well as winner of BEST ACTRESS award at the German Film Awards, WHEN WE LEAVE will have its US Theatrical premiere in New York and Los Angeles in January 2011.  A national release will follow.

    AFI FEST 2010 will host the world premiere of Edward Zwick’s LOVE & OTHER DRUGS as the festival’s Opening Night Gala on November 4. Darren Aronofsky’s BLACK SWAN closes the festival on November 11. AFI FEST 2010 will take place in Hollywood, California at the historic Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, the Mann Chinese 6 theatres, the Egyptian Theatre and the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel from November 4-11, 2010.

  • Savannah Film Festival announces honorees and gala screenings

    Acclaimed actors Liam Neeson, Sir Ian McKellen and Isabella Rossellini will be honored as part of the 13th Annual Savannah Film Festival, which will take place Oct. 30 to Nov. 6.  McKellen will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award on Nov. 4, Neeson will receive an Achievement in Cinema Award on Nov. 2 and Rossellini will receive a similar award on Nov. 5.

    The San Francisco Film Society will present the second annual Cinema by the Bay, a celebration of the passion, innovation and diversity of Bay Area filmmaking, the intelligence and probing spirit of local directors and the incredible depth and breadth of America’s film and media frontier, November 5 – 8 at the Roxie Theater, Southern Exposure and the Lab. The four-day festival will feature new work produced in or about the San Francisco Bay Area and provide a compelling window into Bay Area film culture and practice at its best. CBTB includes features, shorts, narratives and documentaries from well-known and emerging local talent.

  • Academy Announces Nicholl Screenwriting Fellowship Finalists for 2010

    Ten writers have been selected as finalists for the 25th annual Don and Gee Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Their scripts will now be read and judged by the Academy’s Nicholl Committee, which may award as many as five of the prestigious $30,000 fellowships.

    The first NY/SF International Children’s Film Festival, presented by the San Francisco Film Society and the New York International Children’s Film Festival, wrapped a very  successful three-day celebration of diverse, enlightening, inspiring and entertaining films for kids ages 3 – 18 and their families on Sunday, and announced the winners of the best feature film and the best short film, as selected by the weekend’s audiences.
