11 feature programs and 36 short films, representing 23 countries comprise the Currents section of the 61st New York Film Festival. The section presents a diverse offering of productions by filmmakers and artists working at the vanguard of the medium.
Aly Yeganeh’s Sibel’s Silence won Best Narrative Feature Film, and Pierre Guillet’s The Book of Harth won Best Documentary at the 7th edition of Festival of Cinema NYC in Forest Hill, Queens. Althea Root’s Good Side of Bad took home the Audience Choice for Best Feature Film.

50 years after he won the Golden Shell for his first solo feature film, The Spirit of the Beehive (El espíritu de la colmena), filmmaker Víctor Erice will receive a Donostia Award at the 71st edition of the San Sebastian Festival. The Festival pays tribute to a filmmaker who, with only four feature films to his name, has garnered the Silver Shell for Best Director, Golden Shell for Best Film and the Jury and International Film Critics Prizes at the Festival de Cannes, among many other distinctions.
