CUFF.Docs Documentary Film Festival announced the lineup of 19 features and 20 shorts documentary films that will play the 9th doc fest returning to Globe Cinema from November 24-28 for its first in-person festival in two years. In addition to theatrical screenings, this year’s hybrid festival has an online component with additional selections, including two shorts packages, available to stream on-demand.

The European Film Academy announced the nominations for the 34th European Film Awards with Quo Vadis, Aida?, The Father and Titane leading with multiple nominations including for European Director 2021 and European Film 2021. The official trailer debuted for The First Wave, a new documentary on the COVID-19 pandemic from Oscar-nominated and multiple Emmy award-winning director Matthew Heineman. The film has already won several awards on the film festival circuit, most recently the David Carr Award at the Montclair Film Festival, which honors a film exemplifying a commitment to “truth-telling in reporting.” The First Wave will close DOC NYC with a gala screening at the Beacon Theater before opening in theaters on November 19.
