
Nomadland took the top honors of Detroit Film Critics Society nabbing best picture of 2020, along with best director for Chloe Zhao, best actress for Frances McDormand and best adapted screenplay.

The coming-out drama film Sweetheart directed by Marley Morrison was voted the Audience Award winner of the 2021 Glasgow Film Festival. Sweetheart is a sharply observed coming-of-age story that charts the relationship between two young women, during a summer holiday at a caravan park in Dorset. The Audience Award is the only award given by GFF and is voted for by the audience.

“Nomadland” led the winners in the film categories at the 26th annual Critics Choice Awards, taking home four awards including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for Chloé Zhao, and Best Cinematography for Joshua James Richards. Zhao is the first Chinese woman to win as either director or writer.

Caetano Gotardo and Marco Dutra’s All the Dead Ones will open the sixth edition of Neighboring Scenes, the annual wide-ranging showcase of contemporary Latin American cinema presented by Film at Lincoln Center and Cinema Tropical. Neighboring Scenes is scheduled for March 31 – April 12 in the FLC Virtual Cinema.

Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn (Babardeală cu bucluc sau porno balamuc) directed by Radu Jude was awarded the Golden Bear for Best Film at the Berlin International Film Festival. In the film, a school teacher, finds her career and reputation under threat after a personal sex tape is leaked on the Internet. Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn stars Katia Pascariu, Claudia Ieremia, Olimpia Mălai, Nicodim Ungureanu, Alexandru Potocean, and Andi Vasluianu.

Vertical Entertainment acquired writer-director Sabrina Doyle’s debut feature drama film “Lorelei” which premiered at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival. The film starring Jena Malone (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, The Neon Demon) and Emmy and Tony nominee Pablo Schreiber (13 Hours, Orange is the New Black) is expected to be released in theaters and on demand this summer.
