Showtime dropped the official trailer for the new, feature-length documentary entitled Citizen Bio, which explores in depth the nascent biohacking movement and the unconventional scientists and researchers developing alternative medicines to prolong human life and eradicate incurable viruses and diseases. Directed by Trish Dolman and executive produced by Graeme Manson (Snowpiercer, Orphan Black), Citizen Bio will premiere on Showtime on Friday, October 30 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
The 62nd Lübeck Nordic Film Days (Nordische Filmtage Lübeck) taking place November 4 – 08, 2020, will dedicate this year’s Retrospective to “Fishermen’s Films – Fishing in Nordic and Baltic Cinema”. Curator Jörg Schöning focussed this year’s selection on narrative and documentary films made between 1912 and 2019 that shine a spotlight on a profession that is part idyll, part commercial venture. This brings to a conclusion the section’s Baltic cycle, begun in 2018 with “Baltic Transfer” and continued in 2019 with “Undercover North/Northeast”.
ESPN is set to air the new four-part 30 for 30 documentary “The Life and Trials of Oscar Pistorius” on ESPN+ beginning on September 27. Directed by BAFTA award-winner Daniel Gordon (“Hillsborough,” “George Best: All By Himself”) and produced by Academy Award-winner John Battsek (“Searching for Sugarman,” “One Day in September”), the documentary tells the story of the South African Paralympic sprinter and international hero, who had inspired millions with his determination and dedication – and who was then suddenly at the center of a murder investigation. The 45th edition of Toronto International Film Festival wrapped last night with the Closing Night Presentation of Mira Nair’s A Suitable Boy at the RBC Lakeside Drive-In at Ontario Place, and announce its award recipients for 2020. The People’s Choice Award winner is Nomadland directed by Chloé Zhao, People’s Choice Documentary Award winner is Inconvenient Indian directed by Michelle Latimer, and the People’s Choice Midnight Madness Award winner is Shadow in the Cloud directed by Roseanne Liang.
Beyond Fest announced the complete slate of 2020 programming including world premieres of Christopher Landon’s from Blumhouse Freaky, Adam Egypt Mortimer’s Archenemy, and Jim Cummings’ The Wolf of Snow Hollow. Beyond Fest will take place this year at the Mission Tiki Drive-In, from Friday, October 2nd – Thursday, October 8th.
Five films will compete for the Cooperación Española Award given by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) at San Sebastian Festival’s 68th edition.
