The 41st edition of the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) will open on the November 20th with a premiere gala screening of Martin Scorsese’s eagerly awaited ‘The Irishman’ starring Academy Award winners Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci at the prestigious Cairo Opera House.
HBO Max has greenlit travel docuseries Birth, Wedding, Funeral as part of an overall deal with Lisa Ling. Each episode of the series will immerse viewers in a different country to reveal their cultures through the lens of the three universal rituals – births, weddings, and funerals. In a quest to understand what connects us and celebrate the diversity of deeply rooted customs around the world, each episode is a riveting investigation of the human experience in a specific region, and a dramatic dive into an intimate moment in the lives of the people who live there.

Veteran documentarian Kim Longinotto’s Shooting The Mafia is a portrait of fearless photojournalist Letizia Battaglia, who spent her career documenting the life and crimes of the Sicilian Mafia. Featured at the 2019 Sundance and Berlin film festivals and soon to be seen at DOC NYC, Shooting The Mafia will open at the Quad Cinema on Friday, November 22 with a national rollout to follow.
Fernando Meirelles’ The Two Popes starring Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Pryce
The Audience Award for Best Narrative Film at the Middleburg Film Festival went to THE TWO POPES from director Fernando Meirelles and screenwriter Anthony McCarten, who also received the Festival’s Distinguished Screenwriter Award. The award for Best Documentary Film went to WILLIE about NHL legend, Willie O’Ree, who attended the festival with director Laurence Mathieu-Leger.
The documentary film Ready for War, which explores the phenomenon of deported United States military veterans, will premiere on the Showtime network on Sunday, November 22 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
