Just Mercy starring Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Foxx and Brie Larson, and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton will open the eleventh annual Santa Fe Independent Film Festival (SFiFF) on Wednesday October 16, 2019, and Sorry We Missed You, the latest from Ken Loach will close the festival on Sunday, October 20. Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story, starring Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson, will screen as SFiFF’s Centerpiece Presentation on Friday October 18.

Animal Planet acquired the documentary film Watson, which chronicles Sea Shepherd founder Captain Paul Watson, who has spent his life sailing the globe to keep our oceans and their inhabitants safe. Watson had its World Premiere at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival, where it was runner-up for the Documentary Audience Award. Additional screenings this year will include Zurich Film Festival, Hamptons International Film Festival and Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival, among others. Watson will open in select U.S. theaters this fall and premieres on Animal Planet later this year.

Young Venezuelan director, Maria Gabriela Cardenas released the trailer for her psychological thriller and horror film ‘A Dark Foe,’ featuring courageous Selma Blair (Mom and Dad, Hellboy, Legally Blonde), in the movie she shot before announcing that she is battling Multiple sclerosis. The film also stars Academy Award nominee Graham Greene, (Dances With Wolves, Wind River), Bill Bellamy, (Insecure), Ireland Baldwin, (Grudge Match), Julie Gonzalo, (Supergirl), Tokala Black Elk, (Yellowstone, Skins), Jon Lindstrom (True Detective), Kenzie Dalton (Feud), and Oscar Cardenas, (The Grand Guignol, Bon Appetit) in the role of tortured FBI agent Tony Cruz.

Yellow Rose, directed by Diane Paragas was a big hit at the 23rd Annual Urbanworld Film Festival, winning both the Audience Award and Jury Award for Best Feature – U.S. Cinema. The films follows Rose, an undocumented Filipino girl, who dreams of one day leaving her small Texas town to pursue her country music dreams. Her world is shattered when her mom suddenly gets picked up by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The bloody psychological thriller short film Glass Cabin, written and directed by Can Türedi, produced by Luca Marcovici, and executive produced by Maya Korn will World Premiere at the horror film festival Screamfest LA. The spine-chilling short stars Revell Carpenter (Cypress Cake, Queen Mab Was Here) as Scarlett, newcomer David Mar Stefansson as David the caretaker and Jabari AmirJones (Tennis Coach).

Edward Norton’s new drama, Motherless Brooklyn, will be the opening night film of the 14th Rome Film Fest, which will take place from October 17th to 27th 2019.

From Executive Producers Stephen Curry and Viola Davis, and Co-Produced by Mariska Hargitay, the documentary Emanuel looks at the aftermath in Charleston, South Carolina when a 21-year-old white supremacist opened fire at Emanuel AME Church, leaving nine African Americans dead, and leaving their families and the nation to grapple with this senseless act of terror. Emanuel opens in theaters on October 11th in NYC at Cinema Village and October 18th in LA at Laemmle Music Hall.

Dame Julie Andrews will be the recipient of the 48th AFI Life Achievement Award, the highest honor for a career in film given by the American Film Institute (AFI).
