Greta Garbo, described as “one of the greatest divas in the history of cinema” is the star of the official poster of the 14th Rome Film Fest unveiled today by the festival. The fourteenth edition of the Rome Film Fest will take place from October 17 to 27, 2019.
SFFILM awarded five documentary films 2019 SFFILMDocumentary Film Fund awards totaling $125,000, which support feature-length documentaries in post-production. Lea Golb’s Apolonia, Apolonia, Joe Brewster and Michèle Stephenson’s Going to Mars: The Nikki Giovanni Project, Landon Van Soest’s Light Darkness Light, David Osit’s Mayor, and CJ Hunt’s Neutral Ground were each awarded funding that will help push each project towards completion.
The grisly black comedy Harpoon, directed by Rob Grant and starring Munro Chambers, Emily Tyra and Christopher Gray, released the delightfully deranged new trailer. Harpoon opens in select US cinemas on October 4th and comes to Blu-ray/VOD on October 8th.
German director Roland Emmerich will be honored with this year’s A Tribute to… Award at the Zurich Film Festival (ZFF) alongside a retrospective of his work, from his debut film THE NOAH’S ARK PRINCIPLE to the widely known INDEPENDENCE DAY, GODZILLA, THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW and ANONYMOUS. The 15th edition of the festival will also feature Emmerich taking part in a special ZFF Masters session.
Collisions, a film written and directed by Richard Levien, reveals the devastating impact of U.S. immigration policy on one family when the mother is detained by ICE. The film has screened at nineteen US film festivals, winning thirteen awards (including Audience Award at the Mill Valley Film Festival). Collisions will open at the Laemmle Music Hall in Los Angeles on October 4 (with a premiere screening taking place Thursday, October 3rd at the Ahrya Fine Arts in Beverly Hills, with cast and director in attendance). Other cities will follow.

The Woodstock Film Festival will celebrate its landmark 20th Anniversary, from October 2 to 6, 2019 in the historic Hudson Valley towns of Woodstock, Rhinebeck, Kingston, Saugerties, and Rosendale. This year’s festival lineup will showcase more than 50 features from around the world, as well as many short films, and will include panels, live performances, and other special events.

Japanese film director Kore-eda Hirokazu, winner of the Palme d’Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival for Shoplifters (2018), has been named the recipient of the Asian Filmmaker of the Year Award at the 24th Busan International Film Festival. The Asian Filmmaker of the Year is presented annually to a notable film professional or organization that has shown outstanding contributions to developing the Asian film industry and culture.
Kirsten Stewart will receive the prestigious Golden Eye Award at the Zurich Film Festival (ZFF) and celebrate her latest film SEBERG in which she plays the title character, Jean Seberg. The film receives its Swiss premiere on Wednesday October 2nd.
