The 2019 RiverRun International Film Festival announced the Awards with the top prizes going to Alice directed by Josephine Mackerras which won the Jury Award for Best Narrative Feature, along with the Peter Brunette Award for Best Director for Mackerras. The film also snagged the Re Vision and Independent Feature Film Award. The Jury Award for Best Documentary Feature went to American Factory directed by Steven Bognar and Julia Reichert.

The Peabody Awards revealed the eight winning films released in 2018 in the Documentary category, including Dolores, profile of unsung activists Dolores Huerta; A Dangerous Son on the challenges faced by parents of children living with mental health issues; and Minding the Gap, on the healing skateboarding provides for three young men transitioning into adulthood.

The Tribeca Film Festival today announced the 2019 jury members including Angela Bassett, Rebecca Miller, Orlando von Einsiedel, Steve Zaillian, Drake Doremus, Famke Janssen, Jenny Lumet, Tig Notaro, Chloë Sevigny, and more who will select the winners in the film and immersive competition sections. The 18th annual Tribeca Film Festival takes place April 24-May 5 in New York City.

The Las Vegas Film Festival today announced the shorts, labs and special screening for the upcoming 12th edition to take place April 28 through May 5, 2019 around Downtown Las Vegas, as well as the Brenden Theatres and Palms Casino Resort.

Making Waves: The Art of Cinematic Sound, a new documentary film that reveals the hidden power of sound in cinema, will World Premiere at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival on Monday, April 29. Following the screening, the festival will present a special Tribeca Talks Master Class, “The Art of Cinematic Sound,” with director Midge Costin and Oscar-winning sound designers Walter Murch, Ben Burtt and Gary Rydstrom who are featured in the film.

Actors Eric Roberts and Alfre Woodard along with Andy Stefanovich will be honored at this year’s 2019 Richmond International Film Festival (RIFF) with the festival’s most prestigious awards. Eric Roberts will receive the Legacy Award, Andy Stefanovich will receive the Pioneer Award, and Alfre Woodard will receive the Founders Awards. The 2019 Richmond International Film Festival kicks off Tuesday, April 23rd and concludes Sunday, April 28th.

Inland (Tierra adentro) by Mauro Colombo won the Yellow Robin Award at the 8th edition of Curaçao International Film Festival Rotterdam CIFFR, IFFR’s sister festival in Curaçao. The Caribbean Shorts Award went to The Girl with Two Heads by Betzabé García.

The Third Wife, directed by Ash Mayfair, won the Narrative Feature Jury Prize; and American Factory, directed by Steven Bognar and Julia Reichert, won the Documentary Feature Jury Prize at the 21st annual Sarasota Film Festival which came to a close on Sunday, April 14. The Independent Visions Jury Prize went to The World Is Full of Secrets, directed by Graham Swon.
