The 2019 British Urban Film Festival which takes place September 1 to 7, will open with Tosin Coker’s ‘Lara and the Beat’, a Nigerian romantic comedy drama about two sisters coming to terms with the legacy of their family’s media empire. British interest comes in the form of lead actress Seyi Shey who was born in Tottenham. The film also stars Wale Ojo (Meet the Adebanjo’s).
Independent filmmaker Christopher Garetano, whose award-winning documentary film “Montauk Chronicles” inspired the hit show “Stranger Things,” has spent a lifetime searching for the truth behind some of America’s most unusual stories. Now, he begins a boots-on-the-ground investigation into the legends, mysteries and first-person accounts that fuel this country’s creepiest conspiracy theories and unexplained occurrences in the new Travel Channel series, “Strange World,” premiering on Sunday, August 11 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
Epic Pictures wraps production on LUCKY, a dark feminist thriller written by Brea Grant (THE ARRANGEMENT, Heroes) and directed by Natasha Kermani (IMITATION GIRL). Grant also stars in the feature, which shot in Los Angeles, CA and will see release in the US by Epic’s genre label, DREAD.

The 54th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival ran June 28th to July 6th, and today the festival’s juries presented awards for the best films at the closing ceremony. The Father (Bashtata) directed by Kristina Grozeva, Petar Valchanov won the $25,000 top prize, the Grand Prix – Crystal Globe.
