
The 2025 Sundance Film Festival, taking place from January 23–February 2, 2025, in person in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah, unveiled the lineup of 87 feature films and six episodic projects.

Anora was named best picture of the year by the Michigan Movie Critics Guild, and Mikey Madison won the best actress award along with the award for breakthrough performance. The film also received the best screenplay award.

Sing Sing was named Best Picture of the year by the San Diego Film Critics Society, along with Best Actor for Colman Domingo, and Best Adapted Screenplay for Craig Bentley, Greg Kwedar.

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced the 2025 Documentary Motion Picture nominees for the 36th Annual Producers Guild Awards.

From Michael Schwartz and Tyler Nilson, the directors of 2019’s Peanut Butter Falcon, Los Frikis is a coming-of-age drama set in 1990s Cuba. Inspired by true events, the film tells the story of teenagers who injected themselves with HIV to escape the country’s economic crisis by entering government-run sanatoriums.

Oscar winning filmmaker Ang Lee will be honored with the Directors Guild of America (DGA) Lifetime Achievement Award at the 77th Annual DGA Awards on Saturday, February 8, 2025.

Fabula, a dark comedy from award-winning Dutch filmmaker Michiel ten Horn will open the 54th International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) taking place from January 30 — February 9, 2025. The festival will close with This City Is a Battlefield, the historical epic film from Indonesian filmmaker Mouly Surya.

The Atlanta Film Critics Circle chose Sean Baker’s Anora as its top film of 2024 along with Best Original Screenplay, and Best Lead Actress plus Best Breakthrough Performer awards for Mikey Madison.

The Boston Society of Film Critics (BSFC) announced its winners for the 45th annual awards for achievements in film, honoring Anora with Best Film honors, along with Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for Sean Baker, Best Actress for Mikey Madison.

Wicked won Best Feature and The Brutalist nabbed Best Director for Brady Corbet, at the 2024 Washington DC Area Film Critics Association (WAFCA).

Sean Baker’s Anora nabbed Best Picture at the 50th Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA) Awards, along with Best Lead Performance for Mikey Madison in a tie with Marianne Jean-Baptiste for Hard Truths; and Best Supporting Performance Yura Borisov also in tie with Kieran Culkin for A Real Pain.
