In the midst of a long overdue social movement against racial and ethnic discrimination, several of the nominees at the 32nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards include powerful and impactful stories about LGBTQ people of color. Those nominees include: Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, I May Destroy You, The Half of It, Monsoon, Lingua Franca, The Boys in the Band, I Carry You With Me, Kajillionaire, The Wilds, Supergirl, Big Mouth, Dead to Me, Everything’s Gonna Be Okay, Wynonna Earp, and Dispatches from Elsewhere.

    And Then We Danced and Aniara were crowned the winners of the 2020 Guldbagge Awards held in Stockholm yesterday, with four awards each. Levan Akin’s And Then We Danced won the top prize of Best Film, with the Best Director award going to Pella Kågerman and Hugo Lilja for Aniara.

    The 2020 Sundance Film Festival revealed the 118 feature-length films, representing 27 countries and 44 first-time feature filmmakers that will be showcased at the upcoming festival. Films range from indie films to star studded cast featuring Meek Mill, Wilmer Valderrama, Elisabeth Moss, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Anne Hathaway, Ben Affleck and more. The Festival hosts screenings in Park City, Salt Lake City and at Sundance Mountain Resort, from January 23 to February 2, 2020.

    The ballots have been tallied and the Audience Award for Best Feature at the 55th Chicago International Film Festival was awarded to Destin Daniel Cretton’s true story Just Mercy. The film chronicles young lawyer Bryan Stevenson (Michael B. Jordan) and his history-making battles for justice in Alabama. Stevenson refuses to back down as he fights a legal system without mercy stacked against him and his clients at every turn. One of his first, and most incendiary, cases is that of Walter McMillian (Jamie Foxx), a man whose clear innocence means nothing to the corrupt and compassionless forces Stevenson doggedly takes on.
