The 2021 AFI Latin American Film Festival set for September 23 – October 13 at the historic AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center in Silver Spring, MD will open with Mexican director Alonso Ruizpalacios’ (Güeros, Museo) Berlin-debuted A Cop Movie, an immersive, on-the-job and behind-the-scenes look at the life of two Mexico City cops, which confirms Ruizpalacios’ genius for creating unexpected, genre-bending cinema and won the Berlinale’s Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Contribution earlier this year.

Ten Latin American films directed by filmmakers from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Switzerland, Uruguay and Venezuela will compete in the 2021 Horizontes Latinos selection at the San Sebastian Festival.

MUBI will release Azor, a slow-burn political thriller from Andreas Fontana, which had its World Premiere at the 2021 Berlin Film Festival and US Premiere at New Directors/New Films. The film will open in New York at IFC Center on September 10th, with a nationwide theatrical rollout to follow.

The Museum of Modern Art and Film at Lincoln Center announced the 50th anniversary edition of New Directors/New Films (ND/NF), available April 28 – May 8 via virtual cinema, with in-person screenings extending through May 13 at FLC. This year’s festival will introduce 27 features and 11 shorts to audiences nationwide in the MoMA and FLC virtual cinemas, and to New Yorkers at Film at Lincoln Center.
