Everything Everywhere All at Once leads this year’s film contenders for the 28th Annual Critics Choice Awards, earning fourteen nominations overall. In addition to Best Picture and Best Comedy nods, the film racked up several acting nominations including Best Actress for Michelle Yeoh and Best Supporting Actor for Ke Huy Quan. Both Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu are up for Best Supporting Actress, and the cast garnered a Best Acting Ensemble nomination. Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert earned nods in both the Best Director and Best Original Screenplay categories, while Jason Kisvarday and Kelsi Ephraim were nominated for Best Production Design, along with Paul Rogers for Best Editing, and Shirley Kurata for Best Costume Design. The film was also nominated for Best Hair and Makeup and Best Visual Effects.
Netflix released the second official trailer for BARDO, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths, the new black comedy-drama from five-time Academy Award-winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu.
Tár, Todd Field’s drama starring Cate Blanchett as the fictional renowned musician Lydia Tár, won the Overall Audience Favorite award at the 45th Mill Valley Film Festival. Other audience awards went to The Whale for Audience Favorite | US Cinema; Our Father, The Devil for Audience Favorite | US Indie; The Banshees of Inisherin for Audience Favorite | World Cinema; Close for Audience Favorite | World Cinema (foreign language); and The Grab for Audience Favorite | Documentary.
AFI Fest Film Festival 2022 today unveiled the full lineup of 125 films including Bones and All directed by Luca Guadagnino, Le Pupille directed by Alice Rohrwacher, Nanny directed by Nikyatu Jusu, SR. directed by Chris Smith, and Women Talking by writer and director Sarah Polley, which will all screen in the Special Screenings section. Of the official selections, 53% are directed by women, 32% are directed by BIPOC filmmakers and 11% are directed by LGBTQIA+ filmmakers.
Netflix released the official trailer for Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths, the comedy from five-time Academy Award-winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu. Bardo marks Iñárritu’s first film to be shot in Mexico since 2000’s Amores Perros. The film stars Griselda Siciliani, Ximena Lamadrid, Iker Solano and Mexican actor Daniel Giménez Cacho as Silverio Gama.
Six Red Carpet Premiere films including Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu; the U.S. Premiere of Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, directed by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson; Is That Black Enough for You?!?, directed by Elvis Mitchell; Living, directed by Oliver Hermanus; She Said, directed by Maria Schrader; and The Son, directed by Florian Zeller, will screen at AFI FEST 2022, November 2-6. All films will screen at the historic TCL Chinese Theatre.
