Actress Trace Lysette and actor Wilson Cruz announced the nominees for the 29th Annual GLAAD Media Awards live on GLAAD’s Facebook page from Park City, Utah during the Sundance Film Festival. The GLAAD Media Awards ceremonies will be held in Los Angeles on April 12, 2018 at The Beverly Hilton, and in New York on May 5 at the New York Hilton Midtown.
Among the nominees: Golden Globe winner Lady Bird; Golden Globe nominees Call Me By Your Name, The Shape of Water, and A Fantastic Woman. GLAAD announced a Special Recognition Award for Jay-Z’s song and music video “Smile” featuring his mother Gloria Carter who used the song to come out as a lesbian. A Special Recognition Award was also given to the animated short film In A Heartbeat.
“What people see in the media has a powerful impact on how they treat others and the GLAAD Media Awards raise the bar for media to tell LGBTQ stories that accelerate acceptance,” said GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. “At a time when anti-LGBTQ policies and harassment are on the rise, it is imperative that Hollywood and news media tell more LGBTQ stories that reflect the community’s rich diversity – and build understanding that brings all communities closer together. “THE SHAPE OF WATER” Wins Most Awards + Named Best Picture at 23rd Critics’ Choice Awards

At the 23rd Annual Critics’ Choice Awards held last night, live from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, “The Shape of Water,” the most nominated film of the evening, took home four awards, the most of the night, including Best Picture, Best Director for Guillermo del Toro, Best Production Design for Paul Denham Austerberry, Shane Vieau and Jeff Melvin, and Best Score for Alexandre Desplat.
The top film acting awards were bestowed upon Gary Oldman, who took home Best Actor for his work in “Darkest Hour,” and Frances McDormand, awarded Best Actress for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.” McDormand’s co-star Sam Rockwell won the trophy for Best Supporting Actor, while Best Supporting Actress went to Allison Janney for her standout performance in “I, Tonya.”
Gal Gadot received the #SeeHer Award, and accepted the award from her “Wonder Woman” director, Patty Jenkins.

“THE SHAPE OF WATER” “LADY BIRD” are Big Winners with Alliance of Women Film Journalists

The women have voted! The Alliance of Women Film Journalists announced the winners of the 2017 AWFJ EDA Awards, and in the ‘Best Of’ section, this year’s big winner is “THE SHAPE OF WATER“, garnering EDA Awards in two categories including Best Film, Best Director for Guillermo del Toro. The film’s lead actress, Sally Hawkins, was awarded an EDA Bravest Performance Award to make the film’s cume of three awards.
Greta Gerwig’s “Lady Bird” was also honored with three awards that included Best Supporting Actress for Laurie Metcalf and two awards for Gerwig for Best Woman Director and Best Woman Screenwriter.
“The Florida Project” won two EDA Awards for Best Supporting Actor for Willem Dafoe and Best Breakthrough Performance for Brooklynn Prince.
In the EDA Special Mention Categories, documentary filmmaker Agnes Varda was voted the Actress Defying Age and Ageism Award, while receiving the Best Documentary Award for her film “Faces, Places.”
The AWJF chose to honor Rose McGowan and Ashley Judd and all women who spoke out against sexual harassment with the EDA Award for Outstanding Achievement by a Woman in the Film Industry.
The Annual AWFJ Hall of Shame Award was bestowed upon Sexual Tormentors: Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, Brett Ratner, et al.
“This year was an important year for women to feel empowered to speak out and be heard,” states EDA AWARDS and AWFJ founder and film critic Jennifer Merin. “The need for gender parity and gender diversity in the movie industry is patently clear, and the time to stop sexual harassment in all industries is now. The Shape of Water leads the nominations for 2017 BAFTA Awards (EE British Academy Film Awards) announced this morning by The British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
The Shape of Water is nominated in 12 categories, followed by Darkest Hour and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri both receive nine nominations.
The Shape of Water is nominated for Best Film, Original Music, Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, Sound, Editing and Special Visual Effects. Guillermo del Toro is nominated for both Director and Original Screenplay, Sally Hawkins for Leading Actress and Octavia Spencer for Supporting Actress.
Darkest Hour receives nominations for Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Original Music, Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Make Up & Hair, as well as Leading Actor for Gary Oldman and Supporting Actress for Kristin Scott Thomas for their roles as Winston and Clementine Churchill.
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri is nominated in Leading Actress for Frances McDormand. Sam Rockwell and Woody Harrelson are both nominated for Supporting Actor for their roles. The film is also nominated for Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Cinematography and Editing. Martin McDonagh is nominated for both Director and Original Screenplay.

“I, Tonya” “Call Me By Your Name” “Cries from Syria” and More Nominated for 2018 Producers Guild Awards

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced the theatrical motion picture and television nominations for the 29th Annual Producers Guild Awards. This year, the nominees in the category for The Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures included a tie, so for the first time the PGA presents 11 film nominees. All 2018 Producers Guild Awards winners will be announced on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
The Producers Guild will also present special honors to Donna Langley with the Milestone Award, Ryan Murphy with the Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television, Charles Roven with the David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures, the feature film “Get Out” with the Stanley Kramer Award, and Ava DuVernay with the Visionary Award.
In 1990, the Producers Guild held the first-ever Golden Laurel Awards, which were renamed the Producers Guild Awards in 2002. Richard Zanuck and Lili Fini Zanuck took home the award for Best Produced Motion Picture for “Driving Miss Daisy,” establishing the Guild’s awards as a bellwether for the Oscars.

Martin McDonagh’s drama Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri lead the nominations for the 38th annual London Critics’ Circle Film Awards with seven nominations, including Film, Director, Screenwriter, Actress for Frances McDormand, and Supporting Actor for both Sam Rockwell and Woody Harrelson. In addition, as a British production the film is nominated for British/Irish Film of the Year.
Following close behind with six nominations each are William Oldroyd’s Lady Macbeth and Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread. Four films earned five nominations each: Luca Guagadino’s Call Me By Your Name, Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, Paul King’s Paddington 2, and Francis Lee’s God’s Own Country.
The 10 films contending for Film of the Year are Call Me By Your Name, Dunkirk, The Florida Project, Get Out, God’s Own Country, Lady Bird, Loveless, Phantom Thread, The Shape of Water, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
The winners will be announced at a gala ceremony on Sunday, January 28th at The May Fair Hotel, at which Kate Winslet will receive the critics’ highest honor, The Dilys Powell Award for Excellence in Film.

LADY BIRD Wins Big With Indiana Film Journalists Association, Named Best Film of 2017

“Lady Bird” scored with the Indiana Film Journalists Association (IFJA) awards, taking the top prize of best picture as well as best director and best original screenplay for Greta Gerwig, best Actress for Saoirse Ronan and Best Supporting Actress for Laurie Metcalf.
Its five wins are the most for any film in IFJA awards history.
“Faces Places” won the best foreign language film prize; and “Let It Fall: Los Angeles 1982-1992” won best documentary film.
The Original Vision Award, which goes to a film that is especially original or innovative, went to “Loving Vincent.” The Breakout of the Year went to Timothée Chalamet for his work in “Call Me by Your Name” and “Lady Bird.”
The Hoosier Award, which recognizes a significant cinematic contribution by a person or persons with roots in Indiana, or a film that depicts Hoosier State locales and stories, went to “Columbus,” the debut feature film of director Kogonada, which was set and shot in the southern Indiana city noted for its Modernist architecture.
IFJA members issued this statement for the Hoosier Award: “Writer and director Kogonada made the architectural haven of Columbus, Indiana, an integral part of his debut film. As a meditation on time, responsibility and the influence of art on everyday life, ‘Columbus’ shows the introspective side of Hoosiers that is often left out in stereotypical portrayals.”

THE SHAPE OF WATER, THE SQUARE, THE FLORIDA PROJECT Among Dallas-Fort Worth Film Critics Best Films of 2017

The Dallas-Fort Worth Film Critics Association voted the fantasy romance THE SHAPE OF WATER as the best film of 2017, according to the results of its 24th annual critics’ poll released today. Guillermo del Toro was voted Best Director for THE SHAPE OF WATER
The association voted THE SQUARE as the best foreign-language film of the year, and CITY OF GHOSTS won for Best Documentary
THE FLORIDA PROJECT was selected as the winner of the Russell Smith Award, named for the late Dallas Morning News film critic. The honor is given annually to the best low-budget or cutting-edge independent film.
The Dallas-Fort Worth Film Critics Association consists of 34 broadcast, print and online journalists from North Texas.
