Directors Guild of America announced the nominees for the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Theatrical Feature Film for 2023; and the DGA’s Michael Apted Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement of a First-Time Theatrical Feature Film Director.
Chilean actress Manuela Martelli makes her feature directorial debut with Chile ’76, a thriller set during the early years of Augusto Pinochet’s regime in Chile.
Chile ’76 (1976) by Manuela Martelli and The Cow Who Sang a Song Into the Future (La vaca que cantó una canción hacia el futuro) by Francisca Alegría, two debut feature films by emerging Chilean filmmakers will be released in the US by Kino Lorber.
The Museum of Modern Art and Film at Lincoln Center revealed the lineup of 27 features and 11 shorts, a total of 41 directors for the 52nd edition of New Directors/New Films (ND/NF), taking place from March 29 through April 9, 2023.
Corsage directed by Marie Kreutzer wins Best Film Award at the 66th BFI London Film Festival. Marie Kreutzer said: “I want to say thank you to the members of the jury for choosing our film and giving us this beautiful award. The 66th BFI London Film Festival (LFF) announced the full program line-up of films, series and immersive art works from over 63 countries with 41% of the program made by female and non-binary directors/creators or co-directors/creators and 34% made by ethnically diverse directors/creators.
Twelve films set in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba and Mexico complete the Horizontes Latinos section at the 2022 San Sebastian International Film Festival.
Kino Lorber acquired Manuela Martelli’s 1976, which made its world premiere at this year’s Cannes Directors’ Fortnight and will be released in North America as Chile 1976. Kino Lorber is planning a theatrical release next winter.
