The Oklahoma Film Critics Circle awarded Licorice Pizza the honor of best picture of 2021, but The Power of the Dog was the big winner with six awards including Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay honors for Jane Campion, Best Actor for Benedict Cumberbatch, Best Supporting Actor for Kodi Smit-McPhee and Best Supporting Actress for Kirsten Dunst
The North Carolina Film Critics Association announced the winners for the tenth annual awards for achievements in film with The Power of the Dog leading the pack with six awards, including narrative film, director, actor, supporting actor, adapted screenplay, and cinematography.
The Internet Film Critics Society (IFCS) announced their winners of the best film honors of 2021, awarding the honor of Best Drama to C’mon C’mon by Mike Mills, Best Comedy to Licorice Pizza by Paul Thomas Anderson and Best Horror or Science Fiction for Titane by Julia Ducournau.
The Indiana Film Journalists Association named Mass as Best Film of the Year, along with Best Original Screenplay for Fran Kranz, the first-time writer/director who also was named Breakout of the Year, and Best Ensemble Acting for the cast of Reed Birney, Ann Dowd, Jason Isaacs and Martha Plimpton.
Beanie Feldstein, Regina Hall and Naomi Watts announced the nominations for the 2022 Film Independent Spirit Awards. Zola lead the field with 7 nominations including Best Feature, Best Screenplay, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Female Lead and Best Supporting Male. The Novice scored 5 nominations including Best Feature, Best Director, Best Editing, Best Female Lead and Best Supporting Female.
Joe Wright’s Cyrano was named Best Picture of 2021 by the Detroit Film Critics Society along with Best Actor for Peter Dinklage. Best Actress honors went to Jessica Chastain, The Eyes of Tammy Faye. In other categories, Flee and Summer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) tied for Best Documentary.

The 44th Mill Valley Film Festival came to a close after 11 days of films, panels, parties, and musical performances at the annual autumn showcase. Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast was voted MVFF Overall Audience Favorite with other top audience awards going to Last Film Show by Pan Nalin won Audience Favorite / World Cinema, C’mon C’mon by Mike Mills won Audience Favorite / US Cinema and The Rescue by Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, Jimmy Chin won Audience Favorite / Documentary.
The Eyes of Tammy Faye directed by Michael Showalter will open and Marvel Studios’ Eternals will close the sixteenth Rome Film Fest taking place October 14 – 24, 2021. Rome Film Fest will also celebrate Tim Burton and Quentin Tarantino with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
The 24th annual SCAD Savannah Film Festival returns in-person and virtually from October 23–30, 2021 with 157 films, including 45 narrative feature films, 15 documentary feature films and 97 shorts – with 63 of these films directed by women.
