The Columbus Film Critics Association announced the winners of the 19th annual awards, honoring the best in film for 2020. Nomadland made the list of Best Film of 2020 along with Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for Chloé Zhao; and Best Cinematography for Joshua James Richards.

The Alliance of Women Film Journalists announced the nominees for the 2020 EDA Awards, with Chloé Zhao’s Nomadland this year’s most nominated film with nine EDA nominations including Best Film, Best Director, Best Woman Director, Best Actress, Grand Dame Award, and Most Daring Performance Award for Frances McDormand.
The Chicago Indie Critics announced their nominees for their fifth annual film awards. Leading all films with an impressive nine nominations is Netflix’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom helmed by Best Director nominee George C. Wolfe and starring acting nominees Chadwick Boseman and Viola Davis.
The Music City Film Critics Association (MCFCA) – based in Nashville announced their nominees representing the best in film for 2020. Films receiving multiple nominations including for Best Film include Nomadland, Sound of Metal, and The Father.

The Florida Film Critics Circle awarded its 2020 Best Picture prize to First Cow, Kelly Reichardt’s adaptation of Jonathan Raymond’s The Half Life. Los Fuertes, the Chilean drama about young men in love, won the Best Foreign Film category; and You Don’t Nomi, about the filming of the 1995 camp classic Showgirls, won Best Documentary.

The New York Film Critics Circle on Friday announced the annual award winners with Kelly Reichardt’s First Cow receiving the honor of Best Film of 2020. The film is based on the novel “The Half Life” by Jonathan Raymond, and stars John Magaro as a cook who joins a group of fur trappers in the Oregon Territory. The cook befriends a Chinese immigrant (Orion Lee) and the two collaborate on a successful business, although its longevity is reliant upon the participation of a nearby wealthy landowner’s prized milking cow. First Cow also stars Alia Shawkat, Scott Shepherd, Toby Jones, and Ewen Bremner.
The Chicago Film Critics Association (CFCA) announced the nominees for their top film honors of 2020 with Chloé Zhao’s Nomadland leading the field with seven total nominations. Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods, Kelly Reichardt’s First Cow and Charlie Kaufman’s I’m Thinking of Ending Things each earned six nominations, while Mank and Promising Young Woman are each recognized with five. Chadwick Boseman posthumously earns dual acting nominations for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and Da 5 Bloods.
Forty-one films and series are nominated for this year for the 30th Annual IFP Gotham Awards, considered one of the leading awards for independent film and signaling the kick-off to the film awards season. Best Feature nominations went to The Assistant, First Cow, Never Rarely Sometimes Always, Nomadland, and Relic, becoming the first time all of the best feature nominees are directed by women. In total, eleven competitive awards will be presented to independent features and series.
Sidewalk Film Festival announced the complete film lineup of official selections for the 22nd edition of the Birmingham-based film festival which will take place August 24-30. All 163 films (41 features, 122 shorts) and 23 music videos, will be screened at The Grand River Drive-In at The Backyard in Leeds.
