The National Board of Review (NBR) has named their 2024 honorees, with top awards going to Wicked for Best Film; Jon M. Chu for Best Director for Wicked; Daniel Craig for Best Actor for Queer; and Nicole Kidman for Best Actress for Babygirl. In addition to winning Best Film, the NBR will present the NBR Spotlight Award to Cynthia Erivo & Ariana Grande for their creative collaboration in Wicked.

Anora and I Saw the TV Glow lead the nominations for the 40th Film Independent Spirit Awards with six each.

The New York Film Critics Circle voted Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist as Best Film of 2024, along with Best Actor honors for Adrien Brody for his performance in the film as visionary architect László Toth who emigrates to America to rebuild his life, his career, and his marriage.

Better Man directed by Michael Gracey will open the 36th Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF) taking place from January 2-13, 2025. The film is based on the true story of the meteoric rise, dramatic fall, and remarkable resurgence of British pop superstar Robbie Williams.

Glintz Zilbalodis’ animated awards contender Flow, about animals seeking a new home, leads the lineup of films opening in U.S. theaters on November 22, alongside a slate of compelling documentaries. Lucy Lawless makes her directorial debut with Never Look Away, chronicling the life of CNN war camerawoman Margaret Moth. Porcelain War tells the story of a Ukrainian family who stayed behind to defend their home during the war. Raoul Peck pays tribute to South African photographer Ernest Cole in Ernest Cole: Lost and Found, while Steve Pink’s The Last Republican explores the journey of Adam Kinzinger, a Republican Congressman who publicly condemned Donald Trump after January 6th.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the Woodstock Film Festival will kick off on opening night with Men of War by Billy Corben and Jen Gatien, Blitz directed by Oscar-winning director Steve McQueen will screen as centerpiece film, and A Real Pain directed by Jesse Eisenberg as closing night film.

The European Film Academy has unveiled the official nominees for the European Animated Feature Film category at this year’s European Film Awards. Chosen by a committee comprised of representatives of the European Film Academy and CARTOON, the European Association for Animation Film, five animated films have been chosen to compete in the category.
