Charlotte Wells’ Aftersun, a moving portrait of a father and daughter leads the winners of the 2022 British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) Craft Awards winning three prizes including Best Cinematography for Gregory Oke, Best Editing for Blair McClendon and Best Music Supervision for Lucy Bright.
For its 75th Anniversary edition, Edinburgh International Film Festival announced the program of 87 new feature films structured across 3 Galas, 5 themed strands, 1 Big Screen Presentation and 10 films in competition as part of the new The Powell & Pressburger Award for Best Feature Film. Edinburgh International Film Festival runs from August 12th to 20th, 2022.
The Overlook Film Festival 2022 will close with the new horror thriller film The Black Phone starring Ethan Hawke. Based on an award-winning short story from Joe Hill’s best-selling 2005 collection 20th Century Ghosts, the new movie from the filmmakers of Sinister, marks the triumphant return to the genre for screenwriter C. Robert Cargill and director-screenwriter Scott Derrickson.
Calgary Underground Film Festival (CUFF) has added three additional titles to the lineup of genre films showcased at the upcoming 19th edition of the festival in Calgary from April 21 – May 1. Art-house auteur Peter Strickland’s new film Flux Gourmet, the Sundance and SXSW 2022 selected thriller Watcher, and the Australian zombie Midnight Film Wyrmwood: Apocalypse will all be featured in the CUFF 2022 program.
IFC Films dropped the official teaser trailer for Flux Gourmet, a wild offbeat drama from British filmmaker Peter Strickland, starring Asa Butterfield and Gwendoline Christie, that just premiered at the 2022 Berlin International Film Festival. Also starring in the film are Ariane Labed, Fatma Mohamed, Makis Papadimitriou, Leo Bill, and Richard Bremmer.
Eighteen films including one non-fiction and one animation will compete for the Golden and Silver Bears at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival. Seven films were directed by women.
