The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the three hundred twenty-one feature films eligible for the 2023 Academy Awards®. There are 265 feature films eligible for consideration in the Best Picture category, which has additional eligibility requirements beyond those for general entry.
Oppenheimer was honored as Best Picture of 2023 by Las Vegas Film Critics Society, along with Best Director for Christopher Nolan, Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr., Best Ensemble, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, and Best Score.
Poor Things has been named the best film of 2023 by the Indiana Film Journalists Association, winning 7 awards, the most ever in the 15 years of the IFJA awards, including Best Lead Performance for Emma Stone, Best Supporting Performance for Mark Ruffalo, Best Director for Yorgos Lanthimos, Best Adapted Screenplay for Tony McNamara, Original Vision and Best Ensemble Acting.
Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron was named Best Picture of 2023 by the Florida Film Critics Circle, making history as the first time an animated film won the top prize. The film also won Best Animated Film and Best Score for Joe Hisaishi.
Barbie lead the film nominations for the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards with nine, followed closely by Oppenheimer with eight. Other films receiving multiple nominations include Killers of the Flower Moon and Poor Things each receiving seven and Past Lives with five.
The Michigan Movie Critics Guild announced its 2023 winners awarding Barbie the honors of best picture, best director and best supporting actor for Ryan Gosling.
