New films coming to VOD include La Civil, the award-winning debut feature of director Teodora Ana Mihai; the indie film drama Surrounded starring Letitia Wright and Michael K. Williams; the horror film The Haunting Of Hell Hole Mine starring Tom Sizemore and Sally Kirkland; and the documentary Playing With Fire : Jeannette Sorrell and the Mysteries of Conducting from Academy Award winning filmmaker Allan Miller.
The 25th Anniversary edition of Cine Las Americas International Film Festival (CLAIFF), taking place June 7-11, opens with Eva Longoria’s Flamin’ Hot, and will close with Claudia Sainte-Luce comedy Amor y matemáticas (Love and Mathematics).
Inspired by true events, La Civil tells the story of Cielo, a mother in search of her daughter, abducted by a criminal cartel in Northern Mexico. The film stars Arcelia Ramirez, Alvaro Guerrero, Ayelén Muzo and Jorge A. Jiménez.
Mill Valley Film Festival announced the lineup of 118 films – 65 features and 53 shorts, for the 44th edition of the festival headlined by Joe Wright’s Cyrano as opening night film, Mike Mills’ C’mon C’mon, starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Centerpiece film and Wes Anderson’s star-studded The French Dispatch as closing night film.
The 2021 AFI Latin American Film Festival set for September 23 – October 13 at the historic AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center in Silver Spring, MD will open with Mexican director Alonso Ruizpalacios’ (Güeros, Museo) Berlin-debuted A Cop Movie, an immersive, on-the-job and behind-the-scenes look at the life of two Mexico City cops, which confirms Ruizpalacios’ genius for creating unexpected, genre-bending cinema and won the Berlinale’s Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Contribution earlier this year.
