The Washington, D.C. Area Film Critics Association (WAFCA) announced their top honorees for 2020 with Nomadland taking five wins including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress for Frances McDormand, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Cinematography.
Nomadland won three top honors including Film of the Year, at the 41st London Critics’ Circle Film Awards, which were held in a virtual ceremony on Sunday night. The film’s lead Frances McDormand was named Actress of the Year, while writer-director Chloé Zhao won Screenwriter of the Year.
Lily Collins and Daveed Diggs announced the nominees for the 27th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards®. Minari received 3 nominations including Steven Yeun for best actor, Youn Yuh-jung for best supporting actress and best ensemble.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced the nominees for the 78th Annual Golden Globe Awards. Indie films receiving multiple nominations include The Father, Nomadland, and Promising Young Woman received 4 nominations, and One Night In Miami… received 3 nominations
Emerald Fennell’s Promising Young Woman topped the list of nominees for the 4th Annual Hollywood Critics Association Film Awards with a total of nine nominations. The film, which received rave reviews after its premiere at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, was nominated for Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Female Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best First Feature, Best Cast Ensemble, Best Hair & Makeup, and Best Film Editing.
Today, the nominees were announced for the 52nd NAACP Image Awards, with films Emperor; Farewell Amor; Miss Juneteenth; The 24th and The Banker nominated for Outstanding Independent Motion Picture.

GLAAD announced the nominees for the 32nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards. In the midst of a long overdue social movement against racial and ethnic discrimination, several of the nominees at the 32nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards include powerful and impactful stories about LGBTQ people of color. Those nominees include: Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, I May Destroy You, The Half of It, Monsoon, Lingua Franca, The Boys in the Band, I Carry You With Me, Kajillionaire, The Wilds, Supergirl, Big Mouth, Dead to Me, Everything’s Gonna Be Okay, Wynonna Earp, and Dispatches from Elsewhere.
Never Rarely Sometimes Always leads the nominations for the 2021 Film Independent Spirit Awards with 7 nominations including Best Feature, Best Director for Eliza Hittman and Best Female Lead for Sidney Flanigan. Minari was close behind with 6 nominations including Best Feature, Best Director for Lee Isaac Chung and Best Male Lead for Steven Yeun. Other Best Feature nominees included First Cow, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, and Nomadland.
AFI announced the movies and television shows recipients of the 2020 AFI Awards. Films making the list include Judas and the Black Messiah, Minari, Nomadland, One Night in Miami, and Sound of Metal.
George C. Wolfe’s Netflix drama Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom was named Best Film of Year for the 10th annual Black Film Critics Circle Awards. Regina King’s One Night in Miami was among the big winners with honors for best director for King, in a tie with Chloé Zhao for Nomadland; best supporting actor for Leslie Odom, Jr. and best ensemble for the cast.
The Online Film Critics Society (OFCS) announced the nominees for its 24th annual film awards. Films nominated for Best Picture include First Cow, I’m Thinking of Ending Things, Minari, Never Rarely Sometimes Always, Nomadland, Promising Young Woman and Sound of Metal.
