Several of the films have not yet had their required Los Angeles and New York qualifying releases. Submitted features must fulfill the theatrical release requirements and comply with all of the category’s other qualifying rules in order to advance in the voting process. A shortlist of 15 films will be announced in December.
Films submitted in the Documentary Feature category may also qualify for Academy Awards in other categories, including Best Picture, provided they meet the requirements for those categories.
The 88th Academy Awards nominations will be announced live on Thursday, January 14, 2016, at 5:30 a.m. PT at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.
The 88th Oscars® will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2016, at the Dolby Theatre® at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood, and will be televised live by the ABC Television Network at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT. Fox Searchlight to Remake MEET THE PATELS
Fox Searchlight will remake MEET THE PATELS, the documentary that won the Audience Award at the Los Angeles Film Festival, reports Deadline. The remake will be written and co-directed by the original brother and sister team of Geeta V. Patel and Ravi V. Patel.
MEET THE PATELS is a laugh-out-loud real life romantic comedy about Ravi Patel, an almost-30-year-old Indian-American who enters a love triangle between the woman of his dreams … and his parents. Filmed by Ravi’s sister in what started as a family vacation video, this hilarious and heartbreaking film reveals how love is a family affair.
Fresh out of a breakup with his secret white girlfriend, who his parents knew nothing about, and freaked out that he’s almost 30 and single, Ravi goes on a family vacation to India with his head and heart spinning.
Ravi is willing to do whatever it takes to find love—but there’s one tricky detail to consider: In his family, everyone has the last name Patel. Patels marry other Patels. It’s not incest, it means they are from the same 50-square mile radius in India. Struck with how overwhelmingly happy the marriages are of his Patel family and friends, Ravi enters a fool-proof Patel matchmaking system and embarks on a worldwide search for another American Patel just like him.

13th Tallgrass Film Festival Announces Film Lineup; Opens with BAND OF ROBBERS, Closes with WAFFLE STREET
The 13th Tallgrass Film Festival taking place October 14 to 18, 2015, announced the full schedule of 203 films (54 features, 149 short films). Gala selections include the Opening Night film, Adam and Aaron Nees’ comedy BAND OF ROBBERS and the Closing Night selection of Ian and Eshom Nelms’ comedy WAFFLE STREET, bookending Valerie Weiss’ A LIGHT BENEATH THEIR FEET which will screen as the Stubbornly Independent competition winner.

10th Martha’s Vineyard International Film Festival to Open with Funny Doc MEET THE PATELS | TRAILER
The 10th Martha’s Vineyard International Film Festival will take place this year September 8 to 13, 2015. There are two “pre-festival events” again this year. First, on Tuesday, September 8, is THE SALT OF THE EARTH, the Oscar-nominated documentary by director Wim Wenders, about Brazilian photographer Sebastiao Salgado, and on Wednesday, September 9, is AMY, the biopic about pop/jazz/blues artist Amy Winehouse.
The official Opening Night kicks off with MEET THE PATELS (pictured above), the documentary by the brother-sister team of Geeta and Ravi Patel which plays like a comedy, and traces the misadventures of 30-year-old Ravi Patel as his parents, desperate to see him married, escort him back to India to find a proper bride. Closing night is the Italian comedy BUONI A NULLA (GOOD FOR NOTHING).

The festival’s lineup includes dozens of films, documentaries, dramas and comedies, including the acclaimed family drama ABERDEEN, from Hong Kong and a quirky Swedish film, THE 100 YEAR OLD MAN WHO CLIMBED OUT THE WINDOW AND DISAPPEARED. Director Genevieve Bailey interviewed eleven-year-old girls from many countries and all walks of life for I AM ELEVEN.
From France there is UNE NOUVELLE AMIE (THE NEW GIRLFRIEND), and from Israel the comedy ZERO MOTIVATION. Dramas and documentaries from Mexico, Norway, Australia, the USA and Caribbean round out the features program.
Saturday, short films are the focus, with two popular forums returning. In the afternoon, animator Signe Baumane, presents a curated collection of short animations from around the globe and in the evening is the juried International Shorts film competition.
